Through an act of perfect contrition, you receive pardon for your sins outside of confession, even mortal sins, on condition that you determine to amend your life and make a firm resolution to go to sacramental confession as soon as this becomes possible for you.

Please read this article and consider distributing the translations of the salient points of how to do this, via the links at the foot of the article.

(The translations are into Italian, Dutch, French, German and Spanish thus far.)

In my Diocese, and in every Diocese notice I have read, priests and office staff are still working. If you need the Sacraments, Anointing, etc simply call your parish and your priest will visit you.

We are offering daily Confession and Adoration. Ask your parish.

Indeed.

I think we vastly overestimate our ability to achieve perfect contrition. Perfect contrition requires that one’s contrition derive solely from the love of God and the hatred of one’s own sin, which offends God. However, we know that one of the defining effects of original sin is that we cannot love God as we ought. Now, I’m perhaps a little Calvinist for my own good (I take a more sympathetic view of the doctrine of total depravity than I think most Catholics do), but it strikes me as awfully optimistic about oneself and one’s own motives to conclude that one can make an act of perfect contrition.

While I don’t doubt that it is possible for a human to be perfectly contrite (countless saints, I’m sure, have been), I’m fairly certain that I’m not in a good position to make that determination about myself, and I would be deeply skeptical of anyone who claimed to be so.

@BiRitualTrad

It’s something you pray for - with confidence - because God is eager and hungry to give it.
