If everyone in the world could know just one scripture passage (& practice it), which one should it be?

I’d have to pick on those which I find hardest to do.

Namely forgiving those who have offended or harmed me badly, and praising God in all circumstances.

I find both of these hard to do.

And after you have forgiven, praying for them, loving them as God loves them, i.e. in the end that they be saved and if by mercy of God you make it to heaven, that they make it there too…

Imagine doing that for someone say who slept with your wife…

Point well taken. You don’t have to go far.

Sin is a personal choice. So, Romans 8:38-39 is accurate, of course, since it is of the word of God. This shows that there is often something lost and misinterpreted when you pull a verse out of context.

Micah 6:8 has always struck me as being foundation for anyone aspiring to the Beatific Vision.

*I will shew thee, O man, what is good, and what the Lord requireth of thee: Verily, to do judgment, and to love mercy, and to walk solicitous with thy God. *

That has often been one of my favorite. For the sake of variety, I will go to what I have always strived to maintain. It is both a challenge, and a theology. Philipians 2:1-11

If there is any encouragement in Christ, any solace in love, any participation in the Spirit, any compassion and mercy,

Yes ---- If there’s any one Scripture passage that everyone should know and practice it is that passage that says “Do whatever He tells you.”

That’s why my choice is this one:

“Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.”

As that Scripture says, we should live by God’s EVERY WORD. But in order to do that, we would first have to KNOW what that Word is. We would first have to read the entire Bible, from cover to cover, because that is where God’s [every] Word is found. “Study to show thyself approved unto God,” wrote Paul to Timothy in II Timothy 2:15.

When we practice that one Scripture passage, we will come to KNOW all Scripture passages and put them into practice in our daily lives. What it comes down to is that it’s not just one Scripture passage we should know and practice; we should know and practice ALL Scripture passages.

When we do that, we can be sure that everything we do is according to God’s will, for that is what loving God is all about – doing His will.

God defines “righteousness” like this: “ALL THY COMMANDMENTS are righteousness” (Psalm 119:72). We cannot be righteous by doing whatever God tells us except the minor and trivial commandments. We can only be righteous by doing EVERYTHING He tells us. As Jesus said, “Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven…” (Matt. 5:19).

If we love God and want to go His way, God tells us through the apostle John: “For this is” – and here is God’s definition of love – “the love of God, that we keep his commandments…” (I John 5:3). And, again, this time through Paul: “Love worketh no ill to his neighbor: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law” (Rom. 13:10).
