If Evolution is true, does this atheist have a Point?

''God, who is eternal, omniscient and omnipresent, caused the big bang. He/she then waited around for 10 billion years before creating the earth, waited for another billion years before creating the first primitive, self replicating organisms knowing that in another 3.5 billion years mankind would emerge through evolution from fish, reptiles and mammals to worship him/her…Does he have a point if evolution is true? Please discuss…
Your atheist friend misunderstands. God didn’t “wait” for ten billion years. It took that long for stellar and galactic formation after the big bang to prepare conditions for nucleosynthesis of the heavier elements needed for the formation of star systems with rocky, water- and oxygen-bearing and potentially life-bearing planets. It took another few billion years for the evolution of life to develop complex sentient life forms, and morally and spiritually conscious creatures.

Mr oreo,

This is a very important topic. This needs to be discussed and brought to light. If you thought people were introducing a deadly posion to your child, or little sister, yet they believed it was good for them, wouldnt you speak out about the harm it would do to them and others?

I start these topics for the sake of my Church and the members in it. I don’t want them to be deceived. Its disappointing the pope has endorsed to some degree this theory but what can you do. I know im fighting an uphill battle here, but i must obey my conscience in this matter.

I appreciate how motivated you are to do what you believe is right. The only problem is that you don’t put as much effort into reconciling this belief with studies or proper definitions. If you did, you’d realize this belief is no poison, at least not in the sense you describe.

Is your conscience not inclined to reason?

I agree with much of what you say, but this is incorrect. YEC cannot explain the origin of life. Psalm 42:2 “My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and behold the face of God?” (emphasis added). Creation by the Abrahamic God cannot explain the origin of life. At best it can explain the origin of the second living thing from the first living thing.
You’ve got that wrong there my friend, YEC is an alternate explanation of how life began. God himself made it through his words. It is essentially the same way with the theistic evolution stance except more complicated, but each is an explaination of how, not why. And the “living God” is an expression used because all the other pagan statues at the time were just that…merely statues. So they were called dead, deaf, blind, impotent, where as our God was all knowing, hearing, caring, powerful and…living. God himself has no beginning and no end as explained in all the Abrahamic faiths.

Truth, have you ever been near a university? Rather than castigating the work of countless highly educated scientists and theologians – many of them Catholics, including Pope Benedict – perhaps you should expose yourself to some science education. You would then be in a position to engage in discussion that is actually meaningful, rather than a simplistic and ineffectual rant against learning.

Not opponents, just not always complimentary and in some ways contradictory. Would the soul which is judged by God on the Last Day for every human being transfer to a potential future evolved species like it did not from the lower animals that evolved into modern humans? The Church holds the soul is not derived from nature and is not endowed on any other creature. If Judgement Day does not come for another hundred million years humans I would assume under the current understanding of the theory humans would continue to evolove into another species as different from us today as we are from Neanderthals.

The bodily resurrection of humans only, the real flesh in the Eucharist, the sanctity of human life we are taught to have and the mastery/dominion of all other creatures on the Earth make humanity less significant in my mind if we could evolve into something non-human but a highe/otherr being than we are currently.

There is no “real flesh” in the Eucharist, & the CC does not teach there is. If the CC taught there were RF in the E, it would be denying the sacramentality of the E.

If God is alive then God obviously cannot be an explanation of the origin of life. If God is dead then you have a point. Is God alive or dead?

God is alive rossum. He loves you too , and wants you to believe in him. He died for your sins on the cross and rose from the grave so you may live above the power of sin. Only By Jesus Christ alone we are saved not buddha. 🙂

Im not sure why you would be shocked by this when the church held this position for nearly 2000 years.

God Spoke and it was …Ex Nilhio
Has the church changed its mind?

The question isn’t about whether God spoke or not, but about what “it” is.

We understand a lot more about “it” today.

Again, these people are talking about God and “wait”, as if God isn’t eternal.
