Did anyone read that article? Did anyone see that the former prostitute said that legalizing prostitution would not help women be safer but would perpetuate the problems?

Don’t you think a prostitute’s insight on this is worth more than yours, while you sit comfortably at your computer and pretend you’re some wise socio-economic sage?
Did this former prostitute work in a brothel or on the streets?

Hah…! I love it when people say that if we legalize this or overlook that that insert good thing] will happen too.
So which part of my logic is incorrect in my first post on this thread?

Do you have a better suggestion of what to do? Do you have a way to control prostitution? Stop it altogether? Do share.

It doesn’t matter because it goes both ways.
This is the internet, I do not need you to repeat it as I did “hear” you.

What do you mean by that? What goes both ways, and how?

No, you said that people claimed this or that would happen when slavery ended, And the same with interracial marriage…

Then you turned around and claimed that this or that would happen if prostitution was legalized.

I’m just pointing out the hypocracy … If I’m wrong just tell me, cause I’m not trying to correct you, I’m just trying to understand you…

People will try to assume the outcome of any given situation. Whether its gay marriage or prostitution…

What did you mean when you said “Also, regarding the topic of the thread - sorry to tell you this, but there are a lot of these posts on CAF which seem to be titled “if gays can marry then [insert catastrophe] will happen to!” It’s worth mentioning here that the same was said about inter-racial marriage and the ending of slavery.”

What does it mean?

If I really don’t make sense just tell me ; I had a wisdom tooth pulled the other day and I took two vicodins… Sooo…? Do I make sense or not?

When you’re ready for a serious discussion let me know.

Then let’s put all police officers out of a job since robbery, extortion, murder, etc, have always been around. So let’s save a few dollars and give those trained police professionals other jobs.

God forbid,
Ed
But isn’t there a difference? Prostitution, if regulated, wouldn’t kill people (women and their clients) like murder–at least not physically–or take away people’s property like robbery does. And what would it mean to regulate murder and robbery? Police officers can be employed for better reasons than arresting prostitutes. If you want to make a moral comparison, that’s another story.

It takes away people’s human dignity, and makes human beings into experiences that one can purchase. For that reason alone, it needs to be illegal - and then there is the spread of disease, and the destruction of marriages and family life, which I would argue is just as destructive to society as murder and theft, since it leaves children without the foundations they need to grow and prosper and take their places as productive citizens.

The end of slavery did in fact lead to racial equality and inter-marriage, so I don’t know what the quote was supposed to prove.

Racial equality and inter-marriage are not bad things, though. 🤷

Exactly 😃

The quote proved that while people at the time may denounce something, history proves it isn’t such a bad thing. There were people who condemned inter-racial marriage, there were people who did not want slavery abolished. They all presented themselves as ordinary people, like you and me, who just didn’t agree with those things for “reasonable” reasons. The same way many people disagree with the government allowing gay people to have a legal marriage.
