If gays can marry -then shouldn't prostitution be legal?

And if it’s true that normalizing homosexuality by legalizing “gay marriage” will lead to the normalization of paedophilia, then that’s a major health issue for our children, don’t you think? 🤷
I think it’s the exact opposite. Society has sanctions against highly immoral acts - child abusers get sent to prison, and in most countries prostitution is also held to be sufficiently immoral that it’s illegal.

Logically then, the anti-gay rights camp should be arguing for the homosexual act to be criminalized if they believe it’s so immoral. But instead by only arguing against gay marriage they send the confused message that the homosexual act isn’t immoral enough that society needs to stop it going on, and isn’t moral enough for society to acknowledge that it goes on. Out of sight out of mind, don’t ask don’t tell.

What we might call an insipid, limp wristed, net curtain morality. 😃

You would lose.

Legalizing something means the supply of it goes up. In this case, more prostitutes would get into the “market”
We’re not talking about whether the overall number of prostitutes would go down.

We were talking about whether the number of prostitutes controlled by pimps on the streets would change if we introduced brothels.

Because the rationale for homosexual relationships is that, since heterosexual couples deliberately enter into non-fertile sexual relationships by using birth control, that there is therefore no reason to forbid homosexuals from doing so, also.
No, the rationale for homosexual relationships is because they love each other and want to have a union recognised in law. Hence why we in Britain have civil partnerships, which are currently not defined as marriage. However, there is a move towards equalising it and allowing them to marry in a Church legally - because even if they wanted to and a Church was willing, they can still only get married by a registery office.

Just like there was no huge movement for gay marriage when oral contraceptives became legal.

It takes time. But it happens.
Oh. So when they said “if they’ll let blacks marry whites, they’ll let anyone marry!” I presume they meant homosexuals?

In this case, it is, in fact, actually a bad idea.

The point of a spouse having inheritance rights is so that, in the case of there not being a will, the spouse can continue to use the family assets to raise the children.

Anybody can name anybody they want in their will, though. There is nothing preventing her from being her girlfriend’s heir, if her girlfriend wants her to be - they don’t need a sham “marriage” for that.
By the way, how did we get onto abolishing slavery instead of inter-racial marriage?

No, that’s not the point of inheritance rights. I thought it had something to with making sure the spouse could continue to live in the home they shared after a death, particularly if there are children who wanted to sell it. Or perhaps allowing them to make decisions should their spouse go to hospital. Or perhaps they just want to be recognised.

Though it’s probably rarely prosecuted, adultery IS a crime in many jurisdictions…
Here it is a civil offense, not criminal. But it is not considered an offense at all if the other party is nog “offended.”

Keeping prostitution illegal is an infringement on ones “individual freedoms”. If we are truly secular, and laws are based solely on “rights”, then there should only be laws regarding the use of safe-sex practices in regards to legalized prostitution, right…?

Is this what we can expect in the name of progress?
TEPO:

Legalizing prostitution might be a little over the top. Perhaps it would be better to change the parameters of marriage to, say, an inception date and an ending date, so that it is very short term - perhaps even over night.

If so much time elapses between these events, how can you be sure that one follows from the other?
I have the benefit of believing *historical *church teaching: that it’s harmful to the basic unit of society, the family to thwart the procreative and uniative aspects of sex.

In the 2000 year history of the Church, 50 years is the blink of an eye.

Prostitution is one way of acquiring sex without being married, but it’s not the only way. One could download a phone app to get matched up for one-night-stands, join a Facebook group related to the exchange of sex, and more. It also is not uncommon for a female to establish a temporary to ongoing agreement with a many to provide sex for as long as some other need is satisfied (financial, housing, transportation, so on). From my experience you don’t have to even look around to find such arrangements. I’ve been invited to enter into such agreements many times (no, I’ve never accepted one). I’m not sure what the goal is in keeping prostitution illegal. Nor am I sure that it is actually being achieved.

When did the Church say that?
I don’t know of any churches that said that, but up until the late 1950s in many areas of the United States of America it was illegal for people that were not of the same “race” to marry. They may have been able to do a ceremony but when a legal matter came up for which marriage was a factory the two were not acknoeledged as married, such as when a spouse died the surviver would not automatically get the property. Protest against inter-racial marriage were sometimes “supported” by assertions of the decadent problems that would occur if such marriages were ever made legal. Not that any of these assertions were well founded.

Neither have I. Either my wife, or my girlfriend, would have killed me!

It is probably more appropriately codified as a civil offense since it’s akin to a breach of contract in the eyes of the state.

Did I say the Church said that? We are talking about things in the public/secular world here, the thread is not about the Church.
Yes it is. The church is just as much a part of the construction of our society as any other philosophy or religion. The church does not mean the pope and a handful of bishops… The church consists of millions of faithfuls around the globe.

Interesting but not practical considering that children need a “set” of parents their entire life. It’s all about the family unit ya know.😉

Now back to the topic.

There were parts of society that is people who condemned inter-racial marriage.

This is very well documented. I can’t understand why you are having to dissect my post so much, other than to try and irritate me.
