If gender will continue to be a significant aspect of our lives in the eschaton, what will be relationships and roles in the new creation?

Sex on Earth as It Is in Heaven: A Christian Eschatology of Desire

This book invites the reader to consider sexual desire as a heavenly gift with immense earthly purposes. The author does not shy from discussing the abuses of a misplaced understanding of sexuality, but opens the way to seeing sexuality from an incarnational divine perspective. Spirit and flesh find harmony together in this book. While an academic work, it is quite accessible, and a book that can be devoured in a single day of study. It provides good fodder for sermon-writing on relationships and the God-given power of healthy sexual desire. Take this opportunity to exercise your eschatological imagination, discovering that erotic desire belongs not only on earth but also in heaven.

So since married people are one flesh, do you believe they have any special relationship in Heaven?

Hi, Tony!

…heard of ‘wishful thinking’ and ‘reinventing the wheel?’

It’s nothing new!

Jesus stated clearly that:
22:28 Now at the resurrection to which of those seven will she be wife, since she had been married to them all?’ 22:29 Jesus answered them, ‘You are wrong, because you understand neither the scriptures nor the power of God. 22:30 For at the resurrection men and women do not marry; no, they are like the angels in heaven. (St. Matthew)
…as for those who keep dreaming up new interpretation of the Good News, here’s what has been Decreed:
2:1-22 As there were false prophets in the past history of our people, so you too will have your false teachers, who will insinuate their own disruptive views and disown the Master who purchased their freedom. They will destroy themselves very quickly; 2:2 but there will be many who copy their shameful behaviour and the Way of Truth will be brought into disrepute on their account. 2:3 They will eagerly try to buy you for themselves with insidious speeches, but for them the Condemnation, pronounced so long ago, is at its work already, and Destruction is not asleep.
2:12 All the same, these people who only insult anything that they do not understand are not reasoning beings, but simply animals born to be caught and killed, and they will quite certainly destroy themselves by their own work of destruction, 2:13 and get their reward of evil for the evil that they do. They are unsightly blots on your society: men whose only object is dissipation all day long, and they amuse themselves deceiving you even when they are your guests at a meal; 2:14 with their eyes always looking for adultery; men with an infinite capacity for sinning, they will seduce any soul which is at all unstable. Greed is the one lesson their minds have learnt. They are under a curse. 2:15 They have left the right path and wandered off to follow the path of Balaam son of Beor, who thought he could profit best by sinning,
2:18 With their high-flown talk, which is all hollow, they tempt back the ones who have only just escaped from paganism, playing on their bodily desires with debaucheries. 2:19 They may promise freedom but they themselves are slaves, slaves to corruption; because if anyone lets himself be dominated by anything, then he is a slave to it; 2:20 and anyone who has escaped the pollution of the world once by coming to know our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ, and who then allows himself to be entangled by it a second time and mastered, will end up in a worse state than he began in. 2:21 It would even have been better for him never to have learnt the way of holiness, than to know it and afterwards desert the holy rule that was entrusted to him.

Hi!

Marriage is not a Sacrament because it transcends time and space; it is a Sacrament because it is a Union between a man and a woman in God.

Your Google Books link only provides a snippet view. I’m curious: how does she dance around Jesus’ words in the Bible, telling us that there is no marriage in heaven? Does she make the claim that there’ll be unmarried sex in the eschaton?!?!? 😮

The Church teaches that marriage ends with the death of one of the spouses.
The Church also teaches that in heaven, you can be reunited again with your loved ones and family, if all of you make it to Heaven.
So I would hope that I would see my husband again there, but we wouldn’t be in a marital relationship.
And we wouldn’t have any need of sex and probably wouldn’t even want it because experiencing the glory of God would be greater than any earthly sex could possibly be.
Plus, we are supposed to become “like the angels”. Angels do not reproduce or have sex, and do not have a known gender.
