No my critical analysis skills do. Like i said your argument is nothing more than the god of the gaps. An argument that is laughed at by most people over the age of 10.

So in conclusion, yes, the God hypothesis is one plausible way to explain the existence of the Universe, just like the man being accused in the court trial is one plausible candidate for being the murderer. But in both cases, I think we should agree that we should remain agnostic until someone presents actual evidence that it was God who created the Universe, or that this man actually committed the crime. Presenting a plausible scenario, but no actual evidence, and then saying that someone else is prejudiced for not accepting your claim seems silly to me. There’s a long way to go from “plausible” to “probable”.

I will admit that you have an argument for yourself. For me, it is a matter of belief and for you it is not.

P.S. By the way, I’m going to have to ask that this be the end of the discussion on the existence of God, I’m surprised the thread hasn’t been closed already for going off topic. If there’s any chance of saving it, we’re going to need to try and stay on topic, specifically, would you kill someone if God asked you too? Because that’s a much cheerier topic.

No, I would not kill someone b/c God commanded me to do it. I would assume that was a symptom of psychosis unless I could tell differently. I’m not debating the existence of God. There can be a real God and then also situations where people think they are hearing “God” but it’s coming from themselves.

However what I think is important about the Old Testament is that it involves groups of people fighting over the same land, much like happens in many places today. And it records practices such as in Judges that are barbaric. Regarding the land, if you are part of a group that wants someone else’s land, which is the situation the Israelites were in, it is convenient to say “God says we own this.” The same could be said for anyone else who wanted some land.

The leaders could have believed they were really inspired by God but there was clear, Earthly benefit as well. To compare that to an individual being commanded by God to kill another individual is different. One of the best parallels for that is the story of Abraham and Isaac. And whether you think that is fact, myth or a combination, in the end God told Abraham to save Isaac’s life.

Fast forward to today. The Israelis and the Palestinians are fighting over land. Perhaps each of these groups believes that God gave them land - but it’s the same land. Not everyone in each group believes they get the land by divine order, but a lot of people subscribe to that belief. God gave the Jews the land long ago, vs. God intended the Christian Palestinians to live on the land where Jesus lived, or Allah gave the Muslims the land.

Now let’s say each group writes a holy book or comes forward with a revelation: Israeli Jews, Christian Palestinians, and Palestinian or other Muslims. They all say God gave them Jerusalem and told them to fight for it. Who do you believe?

The same question came up during the Troubles in Ireland. Catholics and Protestants fought for partly secular reasons, but some on both sides believed God gave them the land in Northern Ireland. It took quite a bit of work before they decided to share control of it.

i could remember the story of Isaac and his father Abraham, God ordered Abraham to offer his son to Him … so he did it without hesitation , but Isaac was saved at the last moment by divine intervention… God tested Abraham… and he passed the test, now Christians considered Abraham as Father of all Faith… there are points in our lives that God tests us… if God would appear to me and ordered me to kill my father, mother or any relatives … with no hesitation I would!..
