If Henry the VIII were alive today, would he be Catholic?

And besides, Pope Francis is such a nice person. He would have given Henry a call, don’t know how he would do it, but I would hazard a guess the Holy Father would be able to convince him to stay Catholic.

May he would include England in his next itinerary and what a blessing that would be.
That would certainly be interesting… 👍

Yep. Basically as a Pope, Henry would be his flock, a king he may be.

And also not to under-estimate the political pull of a Pope’s visit today especially to a Catholic nation.

We have a much more transparent government and all will be exposed to the public. It would be political foolhardy to do anything politically foolish, though despite that it does not seem to be a deterrence sometimes. ;);)😉

Well, if Henry VIII were alive today, there probably wouldn’t be a Henry VIII, just a Henry Tudor, exploring a career in the Roman Catholic Church while his brother, Arthur, reigned as King Arthur I ( medicine and physical hygiene has much advanced since the early 1500s).
Okay, but then what about the knights and the round table?

Maybe this can be an entire sub-thread where we only ask about different dead people and if they’d be Catholic or not.

If President John Quincy Adams were alive today, would he be Catholic?

Nah. He’d be Unitarian.😃

Even after all of the councils? Oh, wait, those were already around in his day!
Have you seen the Adams Chronicles on youtube? It’s a pretty good documentary on the lives of the Adams family, starting with John. In one scene, he was with his cousin Sam in Philadelphia, when he was accosted by a gentleman who informed him, " you cannot hang Quakers like laundry and expect the world to forget it!" The deadpan way in which the guy said it made me laugh out loud. 😃

Anglicanism has always struck me as just so mannered and practical…I love the “best of both worlds” part. Little of this, little of that. Perhaps the greatest historic achievement of English good will and pragmatism…but as a Church? Give me a Pope or a Luther furiously nailing up theses over that any day. 😃 Just my opinion, of course.

If Henry had cheated Death to the extent of still being alive today, he might think acquiring an heir no longer necessary.

I am moved by the deep and meaningful replies about Henry the V111

If Henry VIII were alive, he’d be over 5 centuries old, and he’d look pretty creepy. Not to mention he’d speak some weird English.

😛

525 years old. And no telling how many wives he would have run through. 38, maybe.

It’s funny, you’re not wrong about Anglicanism being well mannered and practical. And it really is a little of this and a little of that, what does GKC call it again 😉

Quite a motley crew, apparently…
