If Henry the VIII were alive today, would he be Catholic?

Opinions vary on that.
It’s Anglicanism, of course opinions vary šŸ˜‰

I’d argue that’s the best thing about Anglicanism, both our greatest strength and greatest weakness.

I leave you to your enjoyment of it.
Didn’t realize our motley nature actually bothered you GKC. I mean it’s been par for the course since the Elizabethan settlement.

He would not be Catholic. He was too stubborn and selfish. That is why he rejected the Church in the first place.
So right. And, he kept on getting rid of wives because they couldn’t produce an heir. He would t have that ex use today sin e it’s the ma.e who determines the sex of the baby. Maybe he would have then axed the doctors head!

In a different manner. A broad umbrella of mere Christianity, over a motley spectrum of reformed to less reformed, ab initio. It’s a different motley, from the past 50+ years onward.

It doesn’t bother me. I turned from that train wreck in the late 60s. But you may have missed my frequent assertion that ā€œmotleyā€ is not a term of approbation, when I use it. It’s an observation, intended to caution against unwarranted conclusions of uniformity.

Only Catherine of Aragon, and, to a lesser extent, Anne Boleyn, were shed for failure to produce a male heir.

Quite so. By Jane Seymour he acquired an heir.

(Hang on, why am I pretending to tell you this?)

And an heir, of sorts, via Anne. And another, tainted, via Elizabeth Blount. He tried using such material as he had, including Mary, before seeking his decree of nullity.

Jump in, any number may play.

He would fall right in line with liberals whose pride gets in the way of their following the Truth of Jesus Christ and His Church, the Catholic Church. In other words he would still be protestant.

Pride he certainly had; Protestant he certainly wasn’t; and I am unconvinced that pride is the particular prerogative of the liberal: do you not think there may be just a smidgeon of pride showing in your remarks?
