If I became a priest

If I became a priest would I be expected to only say the Latin Mass? Would it be a bad for me to say the New Mass? (I would prefer to only have comments from Traditional Catholics so as to not start arguments of any kind and I don’t want this to turn into an argument about which mass is better)

The Ordinary Form of the Mass is the norm for the Latin Catholic Church. Secular priests are free to celebrate the Extraordinary Form of the Mass if they wish but no priest may be forced to celebrate it.

If a priest is a member of one of the religious communities that celebrate the EF then they would be expected to celebrate it, but if not then the priest can not be forced to do so.

No true Catholic, whether they be “traditional” (as some define it) or not can say otherwise. Nor can they say that celebration of the OF is bad in any way. That is if they are truly Catholic they can not say it. All Catholics must except both forms of the Mass as valid and worthwhile. To say any thing else is to not only go against the Church but also Tradition.

I must add that if you did not want this thread to “* turn into an argument about which mass is better*” then you should not have asked “Would it be a bad for me to say the New Mass”.

Well, the reason I asked that is because a certain website I found explaining the Traditional Mass stated that it is a sin to openly worship with Non-Catholics.

How does that make me a troll? I’m asking legitimate questions and am sincerely interested in the topic. I don’t really know anything about Traditional Masses and I’m trying to gain as much information as I can from personal opinions of Traditional Catholics and actual facts.

Which begs the question… Do you believe that “Catholics” that attend the NO mass are Non-Catholic?

I don’t understand the question
if you became a Catholic priest you would celebrate Mass according the Roman Missal in effect at that time, in the language(s) permitted for the congregation or area you serve. Why in heaven’s name would you even ask if it would be wrong to do so? if you have been talking to self-identified “traditionalists” who have taught you there is something wrong with a priest celebrating Mass in a lanuage other than Latin, those persons have serious issues and are verging on schism.

As for the troll thing, implying that Catholics who attend the Ordinary Form are non-Catholics is very much troll like behavior. So is asking a question that will most likely start a fight and then saying that you do not wish to start a fight.

Hmm, Catholics who attend the Ordinary Form of the Mass (or, “the New Mass”) – wouldn’t that include the Pope, every Cardinal of the Holy Catholic Church, every Ordinary of every diocese . . . . . ?

I just want to say, thank you for considering a vocation to the priesthood. 👍 I hope you can find some holy priests near you who are orthodox with whom you can share your considerations of a priestly vocation.
