If I go Purgatory, how will I know it's not Hell?

Are the souls detained in purgatory conscious that their happiness is but deferred for a time, or may they still be in doubt concerning their ultimate salvation? The ancient Liturgies and the inscriptions of the catacombs speak of a “sleep of peace”, which would be impossible if there was any doubt of ultimate salvation.

Seriously, there’s no issue of not knowing. You will have been judged and will know fully your eternal state.

  • Finally, check the locks on the doors. Hell is locked from the inside; purgatory is locked from the outside.

I laughed so hard in reading this. I am going to share it with my friends tomorrow. I like how you sasid that if the guy burning next to you disappears you are in purgatory. Where did you get this? This is creativity at its best.

I am new here in this forum but honestly I am enjoying reading all the posts here.

About this purgatory, It’s between the hell and heaven. In purgatory, you’ll be judged that’s my own understanding.

I have no theological argument for this but I guess we will just know where we are.

I personally don’t think anyone should be excited about purgatory. Sure, it’s better than hell, but shouldn’t we aim for heaven?

TRUST GOD David, you’ll know BEACSUE you will STILL HAVE FAITH, HOPE and LOVE… no one in Hell has these. You will know that “in God’s Time” you will be granted the beatific Vision:thumbsup:

You know what? because God made each and everyone for himself ,and if we believe,whether Catholic, Prot, Jew or whoever believes in Him, will end up getting purified and what that means… God is going to see to it that each and every believer will get it right before moving on into Him forever. Because of the Resurrection of Christ that is our HOPE!

Hell is chosen by the damned.

Hell is the mercy that God permits for those who reject Him and hate Him so much that they want to be as far away from Him as possible.

So, if you die in a state of mortal sin and thus, cannot stand to be in the presence of God, you will fling yourself into the deepest recesesses of Hell for all eternity because you chose what you wanted instead of what God wanted.

I am still in RCIA, so don’t jump on me if I get this wrong. I thought all you needed was a plenary indulgence, and then you got to skip purgatory 100%? In fact if I am doing my reading right, I will get one when I take my first communion. :getholy:
