If i have faith, can i do miracles in the name of Jesus?

I read in the bible that jesus said, if you have faith in me you can say to a montain “move”, and it will move.

Jesus also walked on water and so did one of his apostles, but when his apostle lacked in faith he sank,

What im asking is, if it is gods will and i have enough faith, can i walk on water?

Absolutely, but do you have enough true faith? There is the question. If you attempt a miracle for the purpose of proving you can do it, you lack the faith. It isn’t a hat trick, it isn’t something to gain anything of this earth. Many have performed “miracles” in modern times. None have done any miracle for any gain or fame. I have seen miracles, so I do know they occur. In today’s world it is almost impossible to have sufficient faith, heck even the Apostles failed at times.

Yes. If you really, truely believe God will allow you to walk on water you will be able to. No doubts at all are allowed.

Absolutely. There are saints who have done this, and there are cases where those who obeyed them also walked on water. Obedience is the virtue most rewarded by the display of miracles.

This glorious virtue (obedience) is so pleasing to Me, that to no other have I given so many miraculous signs and testimonies, for it proceeds from the height of faith.
In order to show how pleasing it is to Me, the earth obeys this virtue, the animals obey it – water grows solid under the feet of the obedient man. And as for the obedience of the earth, you remember having read of that disciple who, being given a dry stick by his abbot, and being ordered by obedience to plant it in the earth and water it every day, did not proceed to ask how could it possibly do any good, but, without inquiring about possibilities, he fulfilled his obedience in such virtue of faith that the dry wood brought forth leaves and fruits, as a sign that that soul had risen from the dryness of disobedience, and, covered by the green leaves of virtue, had brought forth the fruit of obedience, wherefore the fruit of this tree was called by the holy fathers the fruit of obedience.

Faith is intrinsically associated to obedience to God. That is also why it is referred to as the obedience of faith:

Romans 1:5 By whom we have received grace and apostleship for obedience to the faith, in all nations, for his name;

Romans 16:5 Now to him that is able to establish you, according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret from eternity,
26 (Which now is made manifest by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the precept of the eternal God, for the obedience of faith,) known among all nations; 27 To God the only wise, through Jesus Christ, to whom be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.

You should read about Simon in Acts 8:9-24.
He believed and was converted but what he wanted was the powers that the Apostles had. That is challenging God and not real faith. In other words anyone asking about obtaining miraculous powers have questionable motives. As another poster said faith is not to be able to do parlour tricks.

Yes, if it is God’s will, you will be able to walk on water. But you had better make absolutely, positively, thoroughly, completely sure that it is God’s will. God’s record for bailing people out who were doing their own will in His Name is not encouraging.

I can pretty much guarantee that if it is your idea to do this to show that you can, it’s not God’s will. God is generally not into showmanship (see Matthew 4:5-7).

I hear you. 👍 I would just like to see a miracle. i feel if i saw one then i would know for sure that im on good terms with God. My freind came to Christ by experiencing a miracle simmerla to Saul, and because of it, he doesnt have a doubt in his mind. I have enough faith to keep me going to church and going to confession. I have experinced things like moments of clarity where i had a strong feeling that God is real and i have experienced strange things that could be taken for coincedenses, but i saw it as God comunicating with me. I believe that the moral model that God has designed for us is perfect and inspiring, God has also given me knoledge and wisdom and understanding.

its strange, because i know that God exists, yet i have days when i feel alone and in dispear,. it took a miracle to get me to become a Christian, but seeing a miracle I think would be iceing on the cake. If i saw a miracle then my doubts would nolonger affect me and torment me. I often confess and ask God to forgive me for my doubts and my ungratfull heart, yet im still plagued with doubt. Whats even more distressing is that a miracle will not ocurr if i have doubt! what a predicament! 😦 I Guess ill just have to keep fighting the good fight! 🙂
 
Should you ever marry… your children will be a beautiful miracle as you join in partnership with God and procreate.
 
it would be a miracle if i ever find a companion full stop. i have a very low self asteem issue.

Most certainly! However, what you think the strength of your faith is and what GOD knows it is, there are probably miles of difference. If GOD wishes you to have the ability to walk on water there is no need for buying waders. 🙂

Hmmm … it sounds like you have a bit of a dilemma. About being “on good terms with God,” I would say that if you are not in a state of mortal sin (and since you go to confession I assume you are not in a state of mortal sin) and if you are trying to discern God’s will for your life then you are on good terms with God. Period.

It is my experience that people have “Damascus Road” miracles like Saul’s because God can’t get their attention any other way. When God can make Himself heard in a whisper, He whispers; when He has to shout, He shouts. And when He shouts, I would not like to be the person He’s shouting at. Experiencing a miracle like that is not particularly a sign of virtue.

Rather than focusing on what you don’t have, let’s focus on what you have. You have had “moments of clarity” about God, you have seen God’s hand at work, you have the assurance of God’s moral model being perfect, and you have knowledge and wisdom and understanding. These are all great things to have.

And you also have doubts–you didn’t say about what, and I won’t ask. There is a story in the Bible–in Mark 9:14-29 in which a father brings his demon-possessed son to Jesus to be healed and, when being told that he has to have faith, finally cries out “Lord, I believe, help my unbelief!” And Jesus honors that and heals the son. (For many years, when I was a teenager, “help my unbelief” was a regular cry of my own.) Doubt is not a sin, and faith is a gift that you perhaps haven’t been given all of yet. The thing to do is to start with what you have and do what you know you have to do. As you said yourself: keep fighting the good fight. Feelings of belief will follow later on.
