If I missed my LOTH morning and midmorning prayer how do I start my Midday prayer?

I’d consider, personally, 9 am the limit for MP, and I’d prefer 8:30 but if circumstances dictated 9, I think it would be OK. It’s still morning, and form my wife, when she’s not working, 9 am is when she gets up! I’ve already been up three and a half hours by 9 am! But I’m a morning person.

Yes, that’s how I am. If I am left to my own devices, I will sleep until 9 or 10 (of course its rare I have the opportunity). I am rarely asleep before midnight…often much later…so for Vespers, I try to pray it well before 9 PM, but even 8:30 PM is barely “evening” for me.

I was not suggesting the Invitatory be said prior to the Office of Readings if that office is, say, recited in the afternoon. I was asking if a person only recites one office on a given day and that is the Office of Readings and let’s say this person says the office at 6 am are you still saying the Invitatory ought not to be said because this person will say no other offce that day?

No, I think if it’s the only Office the person says, and it is said early in the morning, the Invitatory should be said. The invitatory “invites” one to the whole day of prayer, and for some, that’s only the OOR. A bit unusual to be sure, from my perspective, if I were limited in my time to say Offices, I’d probably opt for Lauds and Vespers because they are the hinge hours and also make nice transition points from leaving the family to go to to work and consecrating the work day, and also for leaving the worries of work behind to concentrate on family.

However the OOR is a rich treasury and I can understand if someone with limited time elects to say that Office for that very reason.

Would you consider 9 am the cut off for praying morning prayer - as a general rule of thumb?

The only office I pray daily consistently (and it’s taken me a while to get to this point- working on it!) is vespers… I’m not always able to pray it at the exact same time each evening, but I consider 9 PM the absolute cut off.
I would suggest for laity with no constitution or rule, and if you say one daytime prayer only or none at all, follow the cathedral rule and use 10:00 as the cutoff for Morning Prayer. If you say only one daytime prayer, then say midday or midafternoon after that.
