If I pray for the souls in purgatory, will they appear to me?

This may seem a little weird to some, but someone told me this. They told me that when their mother was alive she used to pray for the souls in purgatory and that some of those souls would come to her at night and ask her to pray for them and that they were very persistent. I want to pray for the souls in purgatory, but I am terrified this would happen. I am very, very scared of spirits and things of that nature. I know this probably sounds silly, but it’s something I am afraid of.

No, they won’t, unless they want to appear to you. I’ve prayed to souls in purgatory before, and none of them have appeared to me. Of course, some souls in purgatory have appeared to people, such as when Pope Innocent III appeared to St. Lutgardis. If one does appear to you, you are probably a very holy person. 👍

Lol…well I figured it was going to seem funny. People laugh at me all of the time, but I had to ask.
 
I’ve prayed for souls in purgatory and I know others who have too. The idea of this happening never entered my mind, and I am sure of the others.
Its possible that this happened to someone, but if someone told me this happened to them a number of times, I would be deeply skeptical of them, personally.

I don’t know how many times it happened because I didn’t know this person’s mother. That’s all they said, so I kind of freaked out.
 
Don’t ever be afraid of the Holy Souls. They just need prayers and mean you no harm. They will be eternally grateful for your prayers and will help you when you need them. Trust me on this. :yup:
 
I have a devotion to the holy souls in purgatory and have been praying for them daily for years. I attend daily Mass and at every Mass I go to I pray for them. I haven’t experienced any appearance of the holy souls, so I don’t think this would be a problem.
 
Souls in purgatory will eventually enter into the presence of God, so yes, if you obtain the hope of salvation yourself, they will appear to you…in heaven.

That fear is not of God but the Devil. Pray for the soul in purgatory. God won’t give you anything you can’t handle
 
My Mother use to say, do not be afraid of the dead they can’t hurt you. The living now that’s a different story. LOL

I pray for the dead a lot. Always have and I guess I always will. I have had a few weird things happen but I give it little thought.

So, I will leave you with my Mom’s words; the dead can’t hurt you.
 
I would say it is always possible for this to happen, but it certainly shouldn’t be the expected or intended result.
 
Thank y’all for your answers. I love that there are people like y’all that take time to answer people’s questions about faith and so quickly.
