I thought some speculation on what we might be if we where not in our current religions might be interesting. So basically:

“If I wasn’t a (insert current religion) I’d be a __________, because”

I too have done the wandering around bit, dabbling, never joined anything. Catholic is what I am and where I am staying. I am home.

If I wasn’t Lutheran, I’d be…hmm… either RC or Anglican, probably the latter.
Because much of my beliefs co-incide with both of these - although I do not like the Anglican take on Holy Communion (at least from my understanding of the Anglican view)

If I wasn’t Lutheran, I would go to one of the Continuing Anglican churches that holds to a real presence/baptismal regeneration view.

I really cannot imagine not having Jesus in my life and through my days, but…

If I wasn’t Catholic, I’d be Hindu. They have pretty gods/goddesses.

If it were a matter of one of my beliefs turning out to be untrue, I’d be Jewish, but if I just was restricted from being Catholic, I’d be Orthodox… or be even sneakier and say instead of being Roman Catholic I’d be Maronite Catholic! Those are the same religion, though… Well, if based on restriction, if I couldn’t be Orthodox either, I’d be Assyrian. Yup. Can’t leave that Eucharist!

If I wasn’t Catholic, then I would probably be Muslim - because it seems that they have just as many rules within their religion as Catholicism - maybe even more. Just Kidding.

Actually, I would probably be Lutheran, or Eastern Orthodox because they seem to have a lot in common with the RCC.

If I wasn’t pantheist…I can’t even imagine. Because it is truly what I’ve been my entire life, I just didn’t know there was a name for it, that it could be considered a spirituality. So I kept trying to “be” other things…and returning to what I knew to be true deep in my being, then, when I gave up those other things I found I could truly BE this…and years later discovered it had a name and that there were many others who believed as I do.

But if I weren’t that…it’s like saying , if I weren’t human I’d be…I wouldn’t BE, if I were not this…I just wouldn’t BE.

If I wasn’t a Catholic, I’d be an agnostic because I was so confused about religion with all the denominations and religions available.

I became Catholic at 23 and at the time I was very frustrated by the conflicting claims of different religions and the many Christian denominations. I may have assumed a philosophy, like Buddhism, but I don’t know that I would have joined a religion. I would likely still be very confused and angry.
