Ok, men! Here is your chance! Submit a post about what you would do if you were Pope. What would your papacy be like? What would you hope to accomplish? What kind of Pope would you be?
Like a resume.
Who knows maybe some voting cardinals read this site.🤷;)👍

I’d probably resign/renouce/abdicate very quickly because I’d be incompetent, but only after getting tours of all the Vatican’s goodies and rooms. =]

Well here is one Catholic guy’s view…opinion…Chris Matthews of MSNBC’s Hardball TV Show…a practicing Catholic in the Pew every Sunday…God Love him!
Matthews Hopes New Pope Reforms Church: ‘We Got Meat On Fridays, We Would Have Rather Had Birth Control’
Matthews was asked whether the Catholic Church could enjoy a new era of progressivism under a new Pope. He replied that he did not see major reforms of Catholic doctrine on the horizon, but he hoped the church would abandon its opposition to birth control as a means of making abortions more infrequent.

Matthews said that he would have to address that question as a layman in “political, secular terms.” He said that the church has not been especially progressive since Pope Paul VI ushered in reforms during his tenure in the Vatican in the 1960s and 1970s. “We got meat on Friday, we would have rather had birth control,” Matthews said.
“When the pope came out and made birth control a sin and stuck to that policy – even in this age we live in now — I think they lost a lot of people,” Matthews said.** He added that the church’s clergy do not “ever, ever” deliver sermons on birth control.**
“Because the church knows that people who are most faithful to the church – not all of them of course – use birth control,” Matthews said. “That’s part of a loving marriage.”
“The church has not really thought through that relationship,” Matthews said about the Catholic Church’s position on marriage. He said he would like to see the church relax its opposition to birth control because it is one of the best ways to reduce the incidences of abortion.
“In the churches failure to push birth control, or even allow for it morally, they have really held back one of the ways to reduce this prevalence now of the use of abortion as birth control,” Matthews concluded.

Well, I am a married father of 4. So people would think. Oh, a progressive Pope. Here come married priests and such. Nope. Wrong.
  1. Fellay would be in my office within the day. Pledging his obedience.
  2. I would flip flop forms of the Mass with the Latin Mass being the OF and the NO being the EF.
  3. I would have Mcdonalds in my apartment.😃
  4. My name would be Peter the Roman. Or Peter II. Just to mess with the end times people and have some fun.
  5. Catholic Politicians would have to be obedient to the faith.
  6. I would convene an army.
  7. Only two forms of music would be acceptable at Mass. Chant, or Nsync.
  8. two words. Meatless Fridays
  9. Free healthcare for obedient Catholics.😃
  10. I promise to convert Tim Tebow.

Would probably authorize another look at the Novus Ordo and try to standardize some Latin usages in order to prevent vernacular decay. I would try to standardize some sort of rule to encourage priests to provide more/longer confession times and make initiatives to renew frequent confessions. I would try to standardize children’s catechesis and adult catechesis around the world. I would try to publish some sort of standards for liturgical music and other liturgical matters, taking into account regional peculiarities. I would also make international guidelines about child safety to be followed to the greatest possible degree at all dioceses around the world. I would allocate funds toward more media projects like radio and internet, possibly trying to establish something like EWTN in every country around the world (where feasible). I would declare (or whatever word) that celibate homosexuals that meet the various pyschosexual requirements and have been celibate for X years should be considered for the priesthood. I would place a great deal of emphasis on bringing more priests into the Church in the West. I would make initiatives designed to resurrect the Church in Europe and the West. I would work towards more unity with the Orthodox churches. I would try to publish a definitive list of approved saints (unless a recent list exists somewhere). I would publish a book or pamphlet addressing the historical errors of the Church in the past and address each one in a simple format (i.e. “Borgia” popes, bought indulgences, undeserved persecutions, and the like) in order to stop the flow of endless historical ignorance that is out there.

One thing that is a dream of mine that I probably wouldn’t try would be mandating that one mass a week be said in Latin, but that is obviously rather superfluous and redundant because all masses are valid…but it would still be nice 😉

Sorry for the blob paragraph, but once I started I couldn’t stop. And while of course I wouldn’t be worthy or truly capable of the position no one is, really so I can dream 🙂

Second that. I would not be able to handle something like that. THAT is HUGE, HUGE, HUGE. The pressure would kill me. Although I would like to see the Vatican as well.

When can I vote?? :D:D

Its too bad I’m not a Cardinal… Otherwise You would definetly get my ballot. Btw, about the Mcdonalds, Would you be willing to share some? 😃

YoungTradCath kinda took my answer already. I don’t think I’d be able to live with that burden upon my shoulders.:o

Indeed; I don’t believe I’d do a very competent job. I’d abdicate from the papacy after touring St. Peter’s. 😛

I would try, if I could, to leave a message for the entirety of the Church; something impacting to leave behind. However, I doubt I will ever become Pope, so I don’t think I’ll have to think about this whatsoever.

I know the post is headed Baptized Catholic males only but as a pro lifer I felt compelled to answer to Lancers post.

“Because the church knows that people who are most faithful to the church – not all of them of course – use birth control,” Matthews said. “That’s part of a loving marriage."

God forbid the new pope is in favor of birth control. Are people aware the pill is actually an abortifacient? It is possible to conceive while on the pill and then miscarry early on in the pregnancy if the woman is still taking the pill.

It would make no difference to the number of abortions taking place if the church allowed birth control. The catholics using it are obviously not as likely to get pregnant, and the catholics not using it out of obedience to the church, respect and openness to life and for the love of our Lord are hardly going to get an abortion. And the rest of society will carry on as usual.

  1. Conditional consecration of myself by any bishop consecrated in the old rite in a lineage only in the old rite.
  2. Conditional Consecration of all the cardinals from the conclave.
  3. traditional coronation.
  4. celebration of major feast days in the 1962 Rite, with the Holy Week reforms undone.
  5. Replacing the NOM with the Sarum Missal as the new Vernacular option, along with Latin responses for the faithful. The Sarum will still be celebrated in Rome in Latin on most sundays and feast days.
  6. All bishops with lineages from the old rite of ordination will conditionally consecration all other bishops, who in turn will conditionally ordain all the priests in their diocese.

Sorry, what’s wrong with the “new rite”?

HYPOTHETICAL PONTIFICATE OF HIS HOLINESS, POPE PIUS XIII

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/3d/Pio_Nono_Tiara.JPG Shortly after receiving word from the College, I would make my way, post haste, from Boston to Rome, to be Crowned Holy Father. I would deploy the use of the Tiara given to Pope Pius IX from the Palatine Guard in 1877 (seen above). I would forgo the use of the Sedia Gestatore for the Coronation due to the need for haste. After being crowned I would request the immediate Audience with Benedict XVI in order to seek his counsel and to confess my sins to him. Following this honor, I would order an Audience with all the Cardinals and address them. This address would pertain to my deep surprise at being elected and thanking all of them for their loyalty and faith to the Throne of Peter.

The next day (or the next few days), I would schedule audiences with the Prefects of all the Congregations. I would appoint Tarcisio Cardinal Bertone Archbishop of Milan, and create Georg Ganswein Cardinal in pectore. He would be asked to retain his position as Personal Secretary to my Office. I would, likewise, restore the Papal Court over the next few months, including the Noble Guard, the Palatine Guard, and restoring the “rights” of the Black Nobility.

The First Audience with a national leader would be with the President of Italy, and then the Prince of Monaco, if he would accept. This Audience would concern a potential Pontifical Merchant Fleet, having their Port of Call being Monaco. I would also discuss a potential Papal visit to Monaco, and then France.

Immediately, Old Rites (Sarum, Carmelite, Ambrosian, etc) would be encouraged to revive and be permitted.
  • International Diplomacy
Upon settling in to my regular duties as Holy Father, I would request an Audience with different ambassadors to the Holy See and reaffirm the stances of sovereignty as my Venerable Predecessor, Benedict XVI. I would seek a greater diplomatic bond between the Holy See and Israel, in order to see a positive result of the Israeli-Palestinian Question.

I would send another Papal Legate to Dublin to request the rift between the two states cease.
  • The Pope of Christian Unity
I would see to it that Bishop Fellay is received in a private Audience with myself in hopes of resolving the canonical irregularity of the SSPX. I would seek the continued reconciliation of the Society. Likewise, I would send a Papal Legate to the Court of St. James in London to express the Popes sincere admiration of Elizabeth II, and then that same Legate would seek an audience with the Archbishop of Canterbury seeking a heightened ecumenical involvement.
  • Education of the Holy Father
Tutors will be assigned to me, to teach me Italian, Latin, and to continue my educational and intellectual growth. I would reject any attempts to teach me math.
  • Canonizations and Elevations
I would try to continue the process of canonization of Blessed Pius IX, Ven. Pius XII, Ven. Fulton Sheen, and Ven. Solanus Casey. I would also investigate Medjugorje with a more heightened interest.

I would elevate Bishops Fabian Bruskewitz and Robert Finn to Cardinal, and Monsignor Brunero Gherardini to Bishop.

That’s all I have for now.

Well, I think I’d keep my given name “Matthew”. Would also see to the restoration of the traditional coronation. I have something of a gift for speaking and writing in a forceful manner, so I believe I could be a good advocate for traditional positions, particularly those relation to societal issues. I’d like to see some possible adjustments to the liturgy…I appreciate the reverence of the TLM, but find it largely unintelligible where I attend.

About the only issue where I might be considered a “liberal”…I would LOVE to see some what to reconcile the notion of a married priesthood with their liturgical function.

Sorry, what’s wrong with the “new rite”?
I never explicitly said there was anything wrong. I’m just gonna reign in the sedes into the arms of the church. The Sarum should attract more high anglicans. All those decisions involve things that are catholic and from our liturgical patrimony.

All that and elevate all those men including Ven. Solanus Casey?

👍

Sorry, what’s wrong with the “old rite”

he just likes the old one better. His papacy, his choice.

Ah mel, gotta love ya. Always ready for battle!

In your papacy you could declare all traditional Catholics heretics.

It’s a fantasy. Indulge, have fun. Lighten up;)

I (or should I say “We”?) would not just up and canonize all of them, but I would certainly be active in their process for canonization. I feel that each of those men lived virtuous and heroic lives for the Faith. I earnestly think they would be fine examples for the contemporary Christian. It would be a long term process but since I’m pretty young, I think I’d be a long reigning pontiff.
