If intelligent life was discovered on another planet, what implications would that have for your faith?

Would it strengthen your faith? Weaken it? Leave it unchanged? And why?

I would expect some reference to CS Lewis’s “Out of the Silent Planet” to fit here, in which there is life on other planets. But each planet’s life forms are in communication with some powerful being. Presumably this being is the same across all planets, though each planet knows it by a different name. This being has given a different set of rules to each planet for matters on how they should live in their environment; rules followed on one planet may be impossible on others for various reasons. I won’t recap the entire three book series, but look them up for more info.

Without knowing what form these other life forms take, I can’t really say. But for the sake of argument, let us assume that they would be the most difficult for a Christian to digest - a race of inteligent beings who are either agnostic, or religious but not Christian.

Either way, it’s a repeat of what we have here on earth - agnsotics, Christians, or other religious peoples. So I would have to say that for me, it would not challange my faith. My faith exisits regardless of how unpopular it is.

I would have no problem with it. God is the creator of the universe. He would be an underachiever if He only saw fit to create life on this one mass of iron revolving around a relatively insignificant star within the inner rim of the Orion Arm of the Milky Way galaxy out of a 100-200 billion galaxies in the universe.

What if these beings had no religion, or a religion totally dissimilar to Christianity? Would that perhaps suggest that Christianity is a human invention?
 
If the alien life was some form of bacteria, then it wouldn’t mean anything one way or another. On the other hand, if the alien life came here and decided to wipe us out Independence Day style or War of the Worlds style and then proceeded to do so, then I guess I’d have to wonder, or at least I would wonder up until the time I got zapped . . . :rolleyes:

Given that we cannot imagine what “other” intelligent beings would be like, except in terms we know, ala the Roddenberry notions of sentient beings, or hypothetical beings based on evolutionary theories, pretty meaningless proposition.
 
God has no limits only humans put limits on him we cannot put God into a box as Christ said
“you think as man thinks not as God thinks”
so who is to say there might not be intelligent life in other worlds, this is our Creator we are speaking of
so i say this would increase my wonder for his Divine Majesty!!

It would depend on what it would be, however I doubt this would ever happen. The whole universe seems to place humanity on earth at the center of God’s creation.

Wouldn’t shatter it.

It would simply demonstrate the need for divine revelation!

No more so than the fact that some humans have no religion, or a religion totally dissimilar to Christianity.

Simply shows that however much you lead those horses to water, you cannot make them drink.
