If Jesus came to the US to celebrate mass

He would actually use a rare swahili dialect. It wasn’t widely known that he spent much of his down time dabbling in sub-saharan north african languages.

This thought is beautiful and hilarious at the same time. Priceless. 👍
I keep waiting for this to show up as a “plot” on the TV show NUMB3RS.

(It’s one of my husband’s favorite shows–my husband has B.S.s in Math and Computer Science.)

When I was little, I was told that when Jesus and/or Mary appear to people, that they look like the ethnicity that that person seeing them is familiar with, such as how we see Japanese Madonnas, Our Lady of Guadalupe, etc. So…my hypothesis is that we would all hear Jesus use whatever language is familiar to us, and I would think that He’d probably use the liturgical rite that we’d be familiar with; for one maybe Maronite, another Byzantine, another Anglican Use of the Roman Rite, another Extraordinary Form, Ordinary Form, etc.

Swedish. At least, that’s what I was taught growing up.

My personal theory is that “math” is the language of heaven, as math seems to be the unifying “language” of the universe.
Well, He did say ‘Go and sine no more’ and ‘Do you think that I have come to give peace on earth? No, I tell you, but rather division’. 😛

I don’t know…something tells me He might speak a rare, archaised variant of proto-Quenya. 😃

There’s also the comment in the Acts, that “many were added to their numbers.”

His Vicar is coming to the US. And I am sure he is going to celebrate public Masses in accordance with what this country allows - which is the vernacular language.

If Jesus Himself came to the US He would do the same and I am sure He would be most certain to celebrate Mass In the EF also - in Latin. If he came back in the 1950’s He would definitely use Latin because Latin only was allowed back then.

. . . . . I’m sure there would be a number of people there, pen in hand, watching for “liturgical abuses” so they could report them here.
:bowdown2:

I avoided this thread because the title was so lame, but I finally peaked and I am glad I did, if only for this post alone.

Actually, the whole thread is fun and I am glad I have been reading it.

👍

I voted Latin, but it would really depend.

Jesus likely spoke Aramaic, Greek, and Latin.

He would have spoke Aramaic only to people from Galilee, so not Aramaic.

On second thought, I probably should have voted English. But I voted Latin just because I like the idea of Jesus coming around and saying “Why did you people change the tradition?”

Actually, maybe Greek. I don’t know. He would have spoke Greek when talking to people like Pontius Pilate and other Romans. And a little Latin too though.

This question is too complicated for me.

…what language would He celebrate it in? I will not be posting, just reading reactions. I’m not sure what the answer is on this one anyway.
He would speak in such a way and in such a language we could all understand and accept His form of the Mass.🙂 Peace

Having seen the abuse and insults :banghead: handed out on the Should every Parish have a TLM Forum, I LOVE your sense of humor. :rotfl: Peace
