If Jesus had not come until 1975, in Canada.

If Jesus had not been sent by God, until 1975, born to a virgin, in Moose Jaw Saskatchewan, there wouldn’t be a chance of a state sanctioned execution. Without the human / God blood sacrifice, there is no forgiveness.
  1. There would have been no multitudes of people to preach to, as no one goes outside in the winter, it’s way too cold.
  2. If Jesus had been accused of a crime, he would have endless appeals all the way to the Supreme Court, which can take a decade or more!
The full protection of a charter of rights and a constitution. Free legal aid and a very lenient Justice system to navigate through. If he were sentenced, he would likely be given a sentence, to be served within the community.
  1. There would be no crucifixition, nor any toruture, no beatings, no crown of thorns.
  2. There would be no forgiveness.
Be thankful that God did not send Jesus to a modern day, civilized and secular Nation like Canada or Sweden!
🙂

God can forgive man in a insant. He just chose to go the hard way to show us how much He loves us. But you make a great point, nonetheless, thanks for sharing it. 🙂

Perhaps Jesus was sent when and where he was for a reason. The event lead Europe to the faith and for 2000 years Europe sought to spread its influence and way of life around the world. It was in time by which global communications became possible along with the paper technology to record scriptures without depending upon oral tradition.

What’s your point? Jesus came at the kairos.

Also if God used the same methods for Canada as he did for Israel the Jesus would be a member of a Native American tribe whose way of life was being trunced upon and denied by the more powerful Canadian majority. Those chosen people of North America would be near the stage of armed rebellion. Also are we sure those Canadians whose basic human rights concepts came from paganism or humanism instead of the Judeo Christian tradition would not have a death penalty? Are we sure that punishment would not be designed to be cruel and unusual. After all, all punishment would be here and now without a God promising to give the ultimate justice.

Anyway NBC is playing this story on their David series. Ratings are low so its writers won’t get a chance to do the full story.

You sure that would have happened in 1975?

Yes, first nations people had a restorative model of justice and not the Judeo Christian historical, eye for an eye model.

The ultimate punishment in a first nations community, would be to banish an offender permanently from the community.

They did not kill or torture them.

First Nations people in what is now Canada and their belief in naturalistic Gods, were an incredibly civilized people. First Nations society and community existed peacefully and happily, until a certain group of people came upon this continent that is…but that’s another thread.

Its a what if. I provide alternative what if’s. Perhaps Canada throws people into active volcanos without nominally Christian Europeans taking over America.

You have to ignore and disregard the real history of this continent, before the Christian conquests, in order for your what ifs to play out.

Aztecs and Mayans were pre Christian. There is no guarentee that they kill and die off as their influence spread north. Nothing is garenteed. Alternate history writers can make a break with reality wherever is best for the story they want to tell.

Reminds me of a song:
Every time I look at you I don’t understand
Why you let the things you did get so out of hand.
You’d have managed better if you’d had it planned.
Why’d you choose such a backward time in such a strange land?
If you’d come today you could have reached a whole nation.
Israel in 4 BC had no mass communication.
Don’t you get me wrong.
I only want to know.

I think the world would reject Him now just as it did then; all things being equal.

Oh and Canada may not be northern native American. You could write the story so nonChristian Romans or Viking society took over.

The political, legal, and religious environment was the exact constellation God used to bring about our Salvation. Each detail of Christ’s birth, life, and ultimate death was foretold in the OT prophesies. Thanks be to God who knew what He was doing when He kept the Passion out of our “modern” times.

I suppose your right, but the Aboriginals of what is now Canada, lived a very different existence than the Aztecs or Mayans.

I concede your point…

  1. He didn’t preach just for one season but for several years. Why would that be any different in 1975? And if He didn’t go outdoors in winter He could certainly use newspapers, radio or TV to try to get his message across (‘Israel in 4 BC had no mass communication …’)
  2. Jesus was NOT guilty of any legal crime - Pilate himself said so (“I find no crime in Him”). It was extrajudicial murder to placate the mob who hated Him and would cause trouble for Pilate otherwise. It could’ve been done just as well in 1975 Canada. Read up on, say, the Dreyfus affair in France - authorities in any country can indeed, when pushed, be driven to summary and extrajudicial murder.
  3. Do you think salvation would not have occurred unless these things happened? Say if He’d been beheaded instead of crucified? If He’d been mocked or abused in some other way than via the scouring and crown of thorns? Do you think mocking and torture of prisoners never happens nowadays? You know very little of the prison system if you think so - stats show many such crimes committed even within prison walls.
  4. Oh yes it would, just in a somewhat different way.

Something would have happened to make sure he was executed, somehow. The thing is, that the kairos, the “time” of his work (mentioned by an OP already :)), was connected with other things, like his being a Jew, & a monotheist, & a member of a people with a covenantal religion; all sorts of singularities are involved - just as they in evolution 🙂

I can’t argue with your reasoning. I think there would be a secretly sanctioned assination by the state, though.

This is Canada were talking about…😉

That would be some crazy alternate history indeed!

Are you sure they existed peacefully, I thought or understood that tribes did fight other tribes. Some Amerindians were even blood-thirsty (do you think they invented scalping only for the white man).

**‘Natural freedom is the only object of the policy of the [Native Americans]; with this freedom do nature and climate rule alone amongst them … maintain their freedom and find abundant nourishment . . .and are people who live without laws, without police, without religion.’
  • Jean Jacques Rousseau**
( Granted a greatly over simplified observation, but the point, First Nations people were an incredibly civilized, advanced and peaceful people)

Regarding scalping, there is no clear answer. Scalping is known to have had its start about 440 B.C., in Europe.

Regarding Natives, it is actually not known if it was actually the Europeans who brought the practice over.

Now, what does appear most likely, is that scalping was practiced by a few North American tribes, but upon the Europeans arrival, scalping became widespread, due to the Colonialists encouraging the practice with the payment of bounties, for every scalp received.

( There is ample historical record of this, still on original documents, official proclamations etc… if it sounds hard to believe)

And yet North American tribes did practice scalping more than likely as you said before the arrival of the European. And what about infighting amongst tribes are you saying that no such thing ever happened?

P.S. I remember the story of several Jesuit priests up in the adirondacks who were martyred for the faith in a horrific manner, even though the priests had done them no harm.
Would you say that was living in peace and harmony?
