If Jesus set up a community today,

Another question for all to ponder on and then share with others.

If Jesus set up a community for living today, what would it be like? How would it operate?

The biggest difference I would imagine is that the community would be set up for those of faith, friendliness encouraged (most people today have little to do with their neighbors), communal chores, with allowances for privacy and extended family.

I think it would sound a lot more like the first Christian community in the Acts of the Apostles than the average affluent American Catholic parish of today.

To paraphrase one of my favorite authors, C.S. Lewis, it would be a community where we would like some of the things very much, and other things not at all. Where the relationships would be considered very “conservative”–no divorce, modesty, definite male and female roles and differences–and the living arrangements would seem very “progressive”–i.e., communal living, neither capitalism, socialism or communism but more of what Chesterton thought of (I think the term was something like “dispersalism”), everyone contributing, not “equally” as some would be richer and others poorer, but according to their talents and abilities (some would provide money, some food, some prayer, some work, and all would do every job, at least at some time).

It would be sued by the ACLU as a hate group for it’s disapproval of homosexual relationships.

I’d like to see homosexuals seek Jesus’s help. I’d also like to witness Jesus grant them help, the same way he did Mary Magdelene.

I won’t say this about Catholicism (because I don’t see it in my parish, but I do see some of this here on this board) but I think Christianity sometimes gets in the way of itself.

I’m a Christ-loving Christian who is dedicated to being RCC, but I’m getting a little worn down by the UU and the UCC and some Episcopalians because I’m having a hard time supporting my view and keeping with the RCC stance.

Dear friends

The community Christ set up among the first Christians and apostles is the community He intended us to live in now, His word is eternal and for all eternity.The whole world is God our Father, the Holy Spirit and Christ’s community and everyone in the world, whether they have faith in Christ or not.

I think we have removed ourselves so far from fellowship and love and it is becoming a ‘thinking man’s’ search and walk not a ‘man of faith’ search and walk with Jesus. We have become selfish with our time more than anything else, it only takes two minutes to have a friendly word and smile to love each other at the very least.
