If Jesus was fully man, didn't he have to sin?

The Church teaches that Jesus was born fully man. And that he lived his life as a man with the same emotions and feelings that all humans have. The ability to laugh, to love, to cry, etc. If Jesus was born fully man, then why does the Church teach that he didn’t sin? If he didn’t sin, then he couldn’t have been born fully man.

You’re assuming that sin is intrinsic to being human. But that isn’t the case. Sin only occurred once Adam and Eve chose to sin. Had they chosen not to sin – as they were capable of doing – sin would not have been our inheritance. Because the Son is God, sin can have no claim on him, and so at the Incarnation he became fully human without sin.

It may be said that Jesus is more fully human than we are because his human nature was perfect and not defaced by sin, as is ours. Only in the next life, if we are saved and glorified, will we become fully human because we will no longer be able to sin.
