In the Old Testiment anyone who merely touched the Ark of the Covenant would die. And in the story, the person who did touch it died…

Mary, being full of grace was able to carry Jesus (the new covenant) in her womb just because she was “full of God’s grace”.

So here’s the question…

After Jesus was born, why when others touched him they did not die?

“Touching” the ark of the covenant in the Old Testament represents touching Mary in a sexual way. Just as no human was to touch the ark, in the same way no human was to “Touch” Mary.

But Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I have no relations with a man?” (Luke 1:34)

God reserved Mary for himself, to the the spouse of the Holy Spirit. Mary’s pregnancy was by God. No human was to touch her sexually.

As they reached the threshing floor of Nodan, Uzzah stretched out his hand to the ark of God and steadied it, for the oxen were tipping it. Then the LORD became angry with Uzzah; God struck him on that spot, and he died there in God’s presence. (2 Samuel 6:6-7)

A good Jewish woman had only one spouse, and Mary’s spouse was the Holy Spirit. I’m sure that if anyone had tried to “Touch” Mary, they would have died like Uzzah, on the spot.

The “Covenant” was what was inside the ark - the stone tablets on which were written the ten commandments, God’s written word. Jesus is God’s living Word which became flesh.

I guess that’s the point really. The Logos became flesh so we can see and touch Him.

Because in the new covenant Jesus is NOT the ark… He is the fulfillment of what is INSIDE the ark of the covenant.

The new testament temple was Mary, and the Ark of the Covenent/tabernacle therein was Mary’s womb… which remained UNTOUCHED with the exception of Jesus, who was God, high priest, king, and lamb, and therefore could not be harmed therein.

Congratulations, you have stumbled upon one of the key reasons we KNOW that Mary remained ever virgin: because as her womb was the ark of the new covenant, NO ONE but Christ could enter it.
