So you really believe the Pope should start WWIII?

Peace and God Bless

Under the category of “nature hates a vacuum”, we find some time after Constantine that the Church began to accrue secular power as well as spiritual power. Often not heard, among the reasons why the Protestant Revolution occurred was the reaction, particularly in the northern countries, of the princes who were opposed (I could use stronger terms) to what they saw as the constant and overbearing interference by the Church in things political; that was generally the beginning of the end of the influence (and actual ruling) of various small to large territories.
The end came during the First Vatican Counsel, when the Italian States overthrew Church rulers, and essentially imprisoned the Pope in the Vatican.

The Papal Crown and the Papal Coronation basically hearkened back to the time when the church actually exercised political authority over various regions. It still has a tendency among a subset of the laity to make their socks roll up and down.

And those of our Protestant brethren who have exhibited strong fear that the Pope is of a mind to interfere with our politics (e.g. charges against JFK when he was running for President) don’t need further cues to get then “triggered”.

I hope the tiara does come back. It does not seem to be an issue with Eastern Catholics to wear one. (Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

Personally I’m always relieved when they stop wearing those strange things. I always have a hard time reconciling them with humble servitude, plus they look silly.
I think this is the first time in History many practicing Catholics are so against a tiara being worn lol I never heard of a single saint make a hassle over it and they honored the Holy Father and his office to high esteem and still saw him as God’s servant.
Does SAINT John Paul II’s refusal to wear it count?
