I try to lock all the doors in my house before I leave. Some situations prevent that. There is air conditioning in the window that could be kicked in. The guns and ammunition inside my house are not locked in a safe (apartment, no room for one.) I have been considering storing most of my long guns and ammunition at my parents’ house, where they will be safer. I plan on keeping a small safe for ammunition and a handgun for defense. Small safes can be stolen. If someone breaks into your house and steals your guns and ammo because they weren’t locked up inside the house as well, are you morally culpable?

Hi,

Of course not! Burglars have no right to break in and steal. However, you are obliged to make sure that such equipment is not available to children.
