If someone mortally sins

God never leaves our side. Personally, I think we put way too much emphasis on sin, degrees of sin, needing to go to confession for forgiveness, Etc. God loves us, sin and all, and He will never leave us. He understands what it is to be human. I believe he forgives us before we even know we are sorry.
 
I don’t pretend to understand for 1 minute how God forgives anybody. I believe it is beyond our comprehension. So no, I would not put those restrictions on my understanding of it.
