Depends on the context and tone of why and how they’re calling me religious. I mean my family says I’m the most religious person in the extended family and I take that as a compliment, since at the very least it means all the old religious books, tracts, etc… from when members of the family a couple generations back were all religious, end up in my collection.

However I’ve also heard being ā€œreligiousā€ used as a derogatory thing as well from another.

I take it as a compliment. If the person was trying to offend me, they would not be doing a very good job since it would still be a compliment for me.

Even if it was meant as an insult, I would take it as a compliment. I only hope that the way I live my life speaks loudly enough for me to get pegged as a ā€œreligiousā€ person.

Yes. Most of my friends are Catholic, and they know I work for the church, so it doesn’t come up in conversation much. 🤷
They assume I’m ā€œintoā€ my faith. šŸ™‚

Along the lines of being called religious…

My sisters and I were once thinking of taking a trip together, just us girls. We were each making suggestions. I answered my one sister’s suggestion that I did not want to go to the beach (because I can’t take the heat, and I burn easily as does the third sister.)

Her response, meant as a dig toward me: " Well I don’t want to go to a monastery."

That was the end of the conversation. šŸ˜‰

One of my babysitting kids called our family ā€œquite religiousā€ after I made an aside comment about one of our Easter traditions. (His family are secular Jews).

IME many people are baffled that anyone would do or say anything that indicated religious belief, even in the comfort of your own home. 🤷 So if you do so, you’re some weird specimen of a creature. šŸ˜›

If someone used the term in a derogatory manner, yes, that would annoy me. I don’t like it that people treat God with disdain. Moreover, if I really looked into my heart, I’d have to admit there’s just something about non-religious people (and especially their views on religion) that just irks me.

I’ll have to work on that. šŸ™‚

Shortly before we moved, I overheard a neighbor telling another neighbor that I was a ā€œreligious fanatic.ā€ I found it rather funny, because she’d never even spoken to me, and all she could have known about me and my faith at that time was that I walked two blocks past her house to church and back every Sunday. If that’s all it takes to be a ā€œfanatic,ā€ I guess I’m completely whacko… and I’m okay with that. 🤷 😃

One time my daughter said something about me being a religious fanatic and I stopped and told her that I have given my life to Jesus and she said Mom, I know! I was happy because I didn’t know it showed…

I would be very happy because that means my life is a witness to what I believe.

I wouldn’t be offended if it was true (I have a religion, but I am not religious, like I suck at being a good Catholic). Our society is becoming so anti religion to the point where religious people are seen as backwards/old fashioned bigots
