If the Church had a Mission Statement?

I was just asked by someone “if catholicism had a mission statement, what would it be”. I didn’t know what to say so I figured I would see if anyone had any good ideas.

I’m sure that it actually does although I would hesitate to try to word it for them. It would be a good question for the apologists to answer one on one.

I know what I would prefer it to be, but that is another subject.
 
How about “God can be known through faith, love and truth”

That wouldn’t constitute a mission statement. That would be an assertion.

A mission statement requires a future goal to achieve. 😃

To lead man back to the God he rejected and separated himself from by believing he could find more life and wholeness and happiness apart from the only authentic Source of his life and wholeness and happiness.

We are not trying to water down the gospel to a slogan like thats all that matters in our faith. I was asked the mission statement question by someone and intend to give the best answer I can. The end goal here is bringing someone home into the church. To say that a summary is watering down the gospel then I would say that the creeds and the catechism are watering down the gospel. Or that the bible is watering down the message of the church. In reality they illuminate the gospel and make it easier to understand. Hopefully I can answer the question I was asked and have the same result and bring the person to a greater understanding and appreciation of the catholic faith.
