Hi, all,
I thought it would be pertinent to this thread to share a couple of articles by the following links, dealing with the subject of early church apostolic succession and the bishop of Rome:

newadvent.org/cathen/12260a.htm

Have a pleasant day, all. This world is a fascinating place to be.👍
Yes, many of us have seen the Catholic Encyclopedia article many times.

Funny that you cite the writings of a member of another Restorationist church, what is its relevance?

Here is an interesting article:

I thought it was well written. People can research, think, and write, and share their thoughts and ideas. I think it was very pertinent to the subject.

Rinnie,
Thanks again for your kindness and kind wishes. I appreciate that … It sounds to me like your dad would have made a great bishop! Maybe he is preparing to be one now, in the spirit world, and is helping many people come unto Christ. He must be a wonderful person, to have such a kind daughter as you.🙂
That is the milk LDS are instructed to feed us with, saying kind words to try and find a soft spot in our hearts - as long as one seems to accept their ideas. But the moment you reject them outright, they change the tone. You become dishonest, not sincere etc.

Agreed. Check out the other Mormon thread that’s recent. The true colors come out sadly. LOL.

But we can still be kind to eachother. Even if we disagree with eachothers beliefs. The thing that Parker must realize is that as A Catholic we are in the light. The truth has been revealed to us. And it will always come to us from the Church. We can never leave the Church for that would be going into the darkness.

I hope that Parker can see that many questions People have asked him about his faith do indeed disagree with the scripture and teachings of the Church.

All that we can hope and pray for is that he can at least further investigate thing’s that we have asked him. And I am sure if he does he will see the light also in our Church.

For now we must pray for him as well as for eachother to do Gods work the way he wants us to.

God’s peace and Love be with you all.😃

ThuriferAcolyte,
I finally have read that article (speed-read, since it’s so long). I simply disagree especially with the notion that Peter is the “foundation stone” of the church Christ established. Peter never, never taught that or anything like that. He taught that Christ is the foundation stone, and made that unmistakeably clear in an epistle that all can read.

I realize this post is late in coming. I had grown tired of the subject, but thought I would go back and read the article you had cited, to see what it had to say. It’s well written, but doesn’t address a few key points I have already brought up in this thread about John and about authority and about the “foundation stone”.

Our other discussion has been enjoyable and refreshing. Thank you. I hope this doesn’t detract–that is not the intent. (I do have an interest in not repeating myself in that other thread, with what has been discussed in this one.)

Rinnie,
Happy (belated) anniversary to you and your husband. That’s about the same length of time my wife and I have been married also.👍

Agreed. I’m glad you read it, and I know that you disagree with the points (otherwise you’d be Catholic!) My only point here is just to let you know that when Catholics say that Peter is the rock, for us, this does not detract from Jesus Christ being the Rock, and we can mean “rock” in more than one sense (just like how we can say that the Pope is the head of the Church, but ultimately, Jesus Christ is the head of the Church, His body). I read a wonderful explanation of this by an Orthodox priest in a book I have on the Orthodox-Catholic theological issues and church reconciliation, and it emphasizes that point.
