Can you elaborate on that?
Sure. I’m only familiar with one mutual salvo of excommunications being fired at one-another. The “paise de résistance” was the (largely) Venetian sack of Constantinople. Anti-western attitudes were then zealously solidified by their later Muslim masters that encountered insurmountable frustration to their imperial aims as they pushed into the Catholic west.

Spain was reclaimed for Christendom and Vienna was the rock on which the Islamic surges broke time and time again. These were Catholic places.

You pray for them. You show them what the Scriptures say, speaking the truth in love. If they will not be persuaded, then you have done all that you can do. Certainly, telling them “the chair of St. Peter wills it” won’t persuade them.
God moves in mysterious ways. I always advise people to do whatever they feel they are called to do. Sometimes, simply avoiding an argument is enough.

Remember, do not cast your pearls unto swine. They won’t appreciate them and they will end by devouring you.

In my opinion, the only cardinal sin in apologetics, is to deny the Faith.
