If the Son did not take on flesh until the incarnation how was it that He was a sacrifice from the foundation of the world?

My wife asked this when I tried explaining that he Son only took on human nature after the incarnation. I thought it was a good question

The eternal nature of the sacrifice consists in the obedience of the divine nature allowing the human nature to be sacrificed, so that Christ eternally willed to die for our sins and then, after it happened in time, His resurrected body allowed for that sacrifice to be manifested repeatedly in time through Holy Communion, which is the flesh and blood of the risen Christ’s human nature. Remember, God exists outside of time… essentially one part of the sacrifice was without time and another within.

It is true the road to hell is (sometimes) paved with good intentions! So we may be tempted to think an intention by itself is of no value and has no effect until it is put into action. Yet a trustworthy person’ s word is as good as his or her bond. If that is true of a creature how much more true it is of our Creator who is not subject to **temporal **limitations…

Thus he could see all points of space-time equally, including the crucifixion, before the universe was even created. Thus, Jesus was the “Lamb slain before the foundation (creation) of the world.”
