Then why isn’t it more clear? Here’s what I mean, if absolute truth is clear then there should be only one way of worshipping God, and it should be made perfectly clear on how to do so.

But what do we have?

We have all kinds of Christian denominations arguing with each other over the “right” way to worship God.

So if truth and morality is absolute then why are there so many different ways to worship God? There should be only one way to worship God.

However, I am unclear on what that way should be. For me, that way is the Catholic Church.

this is why we needed God to come to Earth… We humans are lost without Him… because of the fall…

we humans think and believe as we like… we want this and want that… dont’ care whats right or wrong…

original sin and personal sin make it more difficult
for the heart and mind to seek and to find truth,
including truths of faith and of morals.

I recently saw that God created man on the sixth day. On the seventh, man is trying to create God. 😃

“We see as in a glass, darkly” …

Original and personal sin cloud our vision. In Heaven, in the Beatific vision, all is clear, and there is only one way to worship God. Purgatory provides that “cleansing of the glass”. Heavenly Windex.

actually, things ARE pretty clear when one looks at experience, that proverbial “best of all teachers”… I mean, fornication, for example, has many terrible consequences… but people do it anyway… not realizing (if not raised Christian…) how wrong it is. They tell themselves (when the relationsip fails) that “it isn’t the right one”… and “better luck next time” but what is wrong is that they are putting the cart before the horse (and HOW)… they don’t realize that sex really is meant only for marriage, as God, in his Word says (and/or implies)… without Christ to show them the way of truth, they could end up going through 100 relationships before they begin to realize that maybe sex is ruining their “love” for the other person. (and just because once in a blue moon fornication results in marriage does NOT mean that it is not always wrong. This is proven by the fact that marriages in which the parties waited for sex end in divorce much less often than otherwise)…

Sin always looks too good to resist… the consequences do not seem real a lot of the time… Even when we know in our head there will be such consequences… the heart, with all its neediness, etc. (caused by sin, usually)… tell us to ignore possible consequences… and “live”… but sin leads not to life but to death…

When one is close to Jesus and following Him, one sees these kinds of things… and yet evne then, it is difficult to resist certain temptations…

We need Jesus far more than we realize… Far, far more…

Starwynd, I just started reading a great book by Peter Kreeft: A Refutation of Moral Relativism. Here’s a quote that seems to fit:
"But a religious believer who knows the true and the good in his head but ho doesn’t love it in his heart and in his life - he won’t submit to it, he wants to make it relative to his desires, … he’ll lose even the truth and goodness his heart already has by making it relative to himself, *his *heart, *his *will, *his *desires, his demands. He won’t *submit *his heart to truth.
… Their minds know the truth, but their hearts don’t love it, don’t submit to it, so they give it up, they exchange it for a lie: the comfortable relativistic lie that they don’t have to submit. And so they cease even to *know *the truth.

The love of *true *morality, objectively true morality, moral truth - that’s what relativism refuses. … It’s not just an inaccurate theory about morality, a mistake. It’s a refusal, the refusal to submit. "
(And I’m only on p. 37!)

Hope this helps,

Ruthie

This discussion seems to be more appropriate for the “philosophy” forum…but what the hey…here we are.
😃

I believe that truth is absolute…black and white…however, interpretations are many shades of grey and are based on our own experiences, backgrounds, etc… and on what God has chosen to reveal to us.

I view Truth as a big ball…something that is impossible to see from every angle at all times. Just because our understanding of something is limited, doesn’t make our limited understanding WRONG…just incomplete.

I personally believe that when we die, part of heaven is complete understanding…the ability to ‘see it all’.

As far as different methods of worshipping God…I’m not sure there is ONE “right” way…but if you are talking about stepping outside of Christ to approach God, then I think you’d be playing with fire (no pun intended).

people who have “died” & been rescucitated have said this … (about their after life experience)

There is a right way because God is not the author of confusion
(33,000 + denominations = confusion). But most of those denominations are part of the Catholic Church whether they believe so /realize it or not, they just don’t have all the “bennies” the RCC has.

i think when we step away from the Church, we are playing with fire. As one saint said, “The Church is Christ” (on Earth).

Protestants spend more time in Purgatorial fire than Catholics do (true some call themselves Catholic but really aren’t… but that’s another topic…)

Hi Starwynd,

Not everything is absolute, just some things.

For example, even within the Catholic Church, there are separate ‘churches’ - the Latin, the Ukrainian Catholic, etc., with very different styles of worship.

And some absolutes in math and science are not obvious at all. So why would they be obvious in theology?

Another absolute that makes things really confusing is that “God would never condemn someone for something that he had no way to know was wrong”. Which gets confusing when you talk about other religions, because if as far as they know, their religion is correct, God can’t punish them for it! And yes we believe that Christianity is the way! So absolutes can get confusing!

there is one way to worship G-d that has been followed through the faith for more than 2 millinenium, those who separated chose to follow their own way, separate from the church that Christ founded.

there is no parity there to speak of, no other church has the fullness of the truth

to whom more is given more is required… but the Bible does speak of those who deserved greater stripes and those who did the same “evil” but didn’t get as many “stripes” because of ignorance… Yet & still, they did get a beating (Purgatory…)… If you fall into a muddy ditch accidentally you get about as dirty as someone who deliberately throws himself in… and no impure thing will enter Heaven.

thank God for Purgatory…

And maybe because we may know the truth but do not perfer it to a lie.

Actually, the fact that we have all kinds of religions and denominations together with all kinds of conflicts is a proof that Truth and Morals are absolutes. This means that we have all kinds of conflicts because the absolute Truth is not known or recognized. It would be impossible to have one religion in everybody and have conflicts. Conflicts are a sign of divisions and a sign of error. Even in the Catholic Church we are not perfect in following the teaching of the Church which makes us also a little divided in some ways.

God bless
