If we die, will this impact us?

So lets say that if we had have any unforgiven mortal sins in the past, if we die and get judged by God, can he use that against us or will he forgive us because it is in human nature to forget stuff?
 
That’s really up to the person. God judges the heart of the person, how much they love, but the person is completely responsible for the condition of their heart and will judge themselves before God. Will judge whether they are eternally estranged through sin.

Good news, we can make a good confession, including sorrow for past sins forgotten while honestly intending to hold nothing back.
 
My understanding is that if you make a good Confession and confess your sins, including all the mortal sins you can remember, then all your sins (including mortal ones that you have genuinely forgotten) are forgiven. My understanding is that you can (and should) mention them in future (in order to openly and humbly acknowledge them and to do penance for them) if they specifically come to mind, but my understanding is that they will have already been absolved.

I believe that regular Confession is a wonderful thing.

First of all, you need to let go of this kind of thinking.

Humans play “gotcha!” With each other. Humans are petty and cruel to each other, and we unfortunately project these traits onto God. That’s sad :confused:

If you genuinely forgot, God knows that. If you genuinely repented, God knows that.
We don’t presume on His Mercy, but He’s not a tyrant, either.
 
You can ask a priest in the confessional to forgive you any sins of a certain nature that you forgot to confess. For example, if you are addicted to alcohol, and you are trying to get sober and want to confess all your alcohol related sins, you can ask the priest to absolve you of anything you forgot to mention and just try to name all the ones you remember. Sometimes it’s impossible to remember everything in a situation like this.
The important thing is to be sorry and genuinely have the desire to turn away from your sins.
