The question here is - If you are a Christian, what is the real reason for you not being a Catholic?

“What we don’t like about Jimmy B” would be a great topic for another thread but that isn’t the question here.

Peace 🙂
I suppose a Protestant could open a thread entitled, “If you consider yourself a Christian, why on heaven’s earth are you a member of the Catholic Church?”

A Catholic may take offense at the tone of that question. Get the point?

I think he may believe that it will abbreviate his time in Purgatory if he is successful in ticking off Protestants.

Christainity is not a religion its a reality, with that said Catholicisim is not a reality
It may not be for you, n2thelight, but it is for those of us that live the reality of the Catholic faith. Any chance that you might let go of your prejudice against Catholics?

I don’t have a clue. Why are there Catholics who believe in and practice birth control and those Catholics who do not?

I can take a hint. Pax vobiscum.

O+
the catholics that don’t follow the teachings of the Catholic Church in matters such as birth control are not faithful to the teachings of the Church they profess, and they have placed themselves in grave danger, (serious sin) but they have not started another denomination. that would be heresy.

But, my dear friend, it shows that you have been Catholic for less than a year, since Catholics don’t beleive all of their doctrine so uniformly. This you shall see most painfully clearly as you progress within the Catholic church. I had been Catholic for 10 years, and I found the Protestant doctrines of Sola Scriptura and Solus Christus blatantly obvious…
Are you saying that persons who call themselves Catholic, yet do not accept the teachings of the Church are still authentic Catholics?
  1. So you can be sure of your salvation? Or does this mean that bad popes can be sure of their salvation?
  2. This regards only salvation, not doctrinal safety. Which is always open to re-interpretation. Think about it. If Catholic dogma declares a given viewpoint on some matter, then if it is erroneous, then the whole entire Catholic church is locked onto a path which will push itself away from Scriptural truth and Christ.
I agree with you that teaching error is equivalent to passing through the gates of hell. If it were possible for the Church to teach error, then the entire body would have been on the path to perdition. This is why Jesus sent His Spirit to guide the Church into all truth, so that this would not happen. Salvation is dependent upon “doctrinal safety”. Salvation is coming into the knowledge of the Truth. There is only one Truth, and that found in Him who is the Way, the Truth and the Life. Outside of Him there is no salvation. Therefore, having a false understanding of who He is will cause a person to stray off the path.
Think about it, do you really want to take such a dare?? I think that it is because of such a mentality, that the RCC has drifted far away from Scriptural truth after 1500 years.
I will dare all to place my confidence in Christ, who is the Head of the Church, and in His promise that He will remain with us until the end of the age.

The Catholic Church was never based on “scriptural truth”. Rather, the Church is based on Christ Himself, who pre-existed all the Holy Writings that testify to Him. The Church that He built, and of which He is the cornerstone, produced the NT out of the Sacred Tradition that He brought “once and for all” to mankind. That is why there is nothing in the Bible that is contradictory with the Church. If it seems to you that there is, then you are misinterpreting one or the other.
Boniface VIII decalred that this is a definition that one must be subject to the pope for salvation. But anyway, I can quote you pope Leo X:

*“Where the necessity of salvation is concerned all the faithful of Christ must be subject to the Roman Pontiff, as we are taught by Holy Scripture, the testimony of the holy fathers, and by that constitution of our predecessor of happy memory, Boniface VIII, which begins Unam Sanctam.” (Pope Leo X, Fifth Lateran Council (1512-1517) Conciliorum Oecumenicorum Decreta, Edidit Centro di Documentazione, Instituto per Science Religiose, Herder, Bologna, 1962, no. 40, pp. 619, 620.) *
All are subject to Christ’s authority, whether they recognize it or not. All are subject to the authority He appointed, whether they recognize it or not. There are many rebellious subjects of the Roman Pontiff, especially in Europe and the United states.
But why do Catholics disagree with each other so much? The unity described in Jhon 17 regards brotherly, Christian unity.
Rejection of Truth breeds disunity. It is really not a matter of disagreeing with one another, as it is disagreement with the Teaching of Jesus.
Nowhere is it mentioned that this deals with doctrinal unity.
I cannot tell from the post who wrote this, but I can tell you that there is no unity without Truth. It is in adherance to the Truth that unity results. Unity is a fruit of being one in the Truth. When any part of the Truth is rejected, disunity results. This is why we see so much fractioning in Protestantism today. The Reformers rejected part of the Truth, and the fruit has been more disunity. The fractioning has multiplied exponentially.
Let them do so, since this is basic human religious freedom. You can’t stop them. If they make bad arguments, then their denomination will soak up in time.
I agree. the Church attempted to stamp this out during the Refomation, and it was demonstrated that people will stubbornly persist in error and rebellion at the price of their own souls. It is incumbent upon the Church to Teach and Preach the Truth. If people insist upon falling into error, or running after it, all she can do is warn them. Killing them obviously doesn’t work. 😉

When the Son of Man comes, will HE find Faith on earth? Luke 18:8

Since they are called by Baptism to lead a life in keeping with the teaching of the Gospel, the Christian faithful have the right to a Christian education by which they are to be instructed properly to strive for the maturity of the human person and at the same time to know and live the mystery of salvation. Canon 217

All are bound to seek the truth in the matters which concern God and His Church; when they have found it, then by divine law they are bound, and have the right, to embrace and keep it. Canon 748, S1

Those things are to be believed by divine and Catholic faith which are contained in the word of God as it has been written or handed down by Tradition, that is, in the single deposit of faith entrusted to the Church, and which are at the same time proposed as divinely revealed either by the solemn Magisterium of the Church or by its ordinary and universal Magisterium, which in fact is manifested by the common adherence of Christ’s faithful under the guidance of the sacred Magisterium. All are therefore bound to avoid any contrary doctrines. Canon 750m S1

Futhermore, each and everything set forth definitively, by the Mafisterium of the Church regarding teaching on faith and morals must be firmly accepted and held; namely, those things required for the holy keeping and faithful exposition of the deposit of faith; therefore, anyone who rejects propositions which are to be held definitively sets himself against the teaching of the Catholic Church. Canon 750 S2

These Canons show us our rights to seek and know the True Faith and are obligations to follow what is taught by the Ordinary Magisterium of the Catholic Church.

To be a faithful catholic, you cannot be a pick and choose catholic. If it is taught by the Magisterium of the Catholic Church, it IS Infallible. To many Catholics falsely think the only time the Pope is infallible is when he speaks ex cathedra on Dogma. Infallibility means to be kept free from error by the supernatural assistance of the Holy Spirit. As promised by Jesus Christ to HIS Church, the Catholic Church and none other. The Pope is infallible when speaking to the whole Church on matters of Faith, (what we believe) and Morals, (how we live that belief). Nothing within the Teaching Magistirum of the Catholic Church is subject to change. Not ever! Such as Abortion, homosexual behavior, adultery, living together without the benefit of marriage, birth Control, ordination of women and other so called acceptable lifestyles of today. The ordinary Magisterium of the Catholic Church is the teaching authority of the Church in ordinary, day to day circumstances. It IS infallible. The extraordinary magisterium is the teaching authority of the Church in special circumstances and occurs in decrees of a general council or an explicit Papal defination.

To be a faithful Catholic is not just a set of rules to be followed, it is a way of life to be lived out of LOVE for our Lord and HIS sacrifice for us and HIS gift of the Catholic Church and HIS promise of freedom of error thru the guidance of the Holy Spirit, (infallibility), It is a life of humility, devotion, service and obedience. The world tells us to put ourselves first, what WE want, what WE like, what WE believe!. Christ tells us to follow HIM, HE is the Way, the TRUTH and the LIFE. That is the sure path to Heaven.
When the Son of Man comes, will he find TRUE faith on earth, or just everyones opinion.

PS. Infallibility does NOT mean the POPE(or anyone else) is free from sinning. It does mean that NO ONE, not even the POPE can cause the Catholic Church to teach error.

Catechism of the Catholic Church

688 The Church, a communion living in the faith of the apostles which she transmits, is the place where we know the Holy Spirit:
  • in the Scriptures he inspired;
  • in the Tradition, to which the Church Fathers are always timely witnesses;
  • in the Church’s Magisterium, which he assists;
  • in the sacramental liturgy, through its words and symbols, in which the Holy Spirit puts us into communion with Christ;
  • in prayer, wherein he intercedes for us;
  • in the charisms and ministries by which the Church is built up;
  • in the signs of apostolic and missionary life;
  • in the witness of saints through whom he manifests his holiness and continues the work of salvation.

On a Thursday morning of 07 I went out to pray the Rosary as I always do when I run alone, just as I did this morning. On that Thursday morning in 07 during the Hail Mary of the first decade the word luminous came into my mind. That took me back to a dream I had before during Christmas of 04. This was 4 months before I returned to Catholicism but God brought me to Christ about 6 months earlier.
In this dream I was in a city with narrow streets and the light was dim or hazy and people were passing by me with no life in their eyes. This was disturbing and I awakened knowing that it was just a dream. However, when I returned to sleep the dream continued and I awakened again. This had never happened before but I was not disturbed, just curious. I returned to sleep and the dream started again and I awakened again. This time upon awakening, instead of seeing the ceiling when I opened me eyes, I saw a bright luminous light. It was brighter and unlike any light I had seen in my life. It did not hurt my eyes. Then I heard a voice that was neither male nor female say, “I love you.” I started crying.
Now back to my run of 07 and the word luminous. I continued to pray the Rosary and luminous evolved into an experiment that was conducted at the University of Geneva in 1997 when physicists were able to get a calcium atom to emit to identical particles of light. The researchers then did something to one photon but nothing to the other photon. To their astonishment both photons acted as though they had the same stimulus influencing them. They could find nothing connecting them.
I returned from my run to look up the meaning of luminous which is a light that is transluscent and is not produced by heat. On the opposite page I noticed lucifer which is identified as satan and the bringer of light that is created by heat and friction. I called my spiritual adviser to inform him of this Rosary Run and he told me that the Holy Spirit was giving me blessings that morning. I did not know this at the time but, John Paul II suggested that we pray the Luminous Mysteries on Thursday.
Continued on next post.

Now back to this morning’s Rosary Run. I was reading the most recent posts this morning before my run and I saw heat that was caused by friction.
During my prayer I was given the idea that if we are to unite with God and with one another as Jesus prayed we do, then we have to resonate with the Luminous Light of God that is Love and not with the light that is produced by heat.
If we are against something or someone we produce friction. To be for something in the correct way is to love what we are for. Satan does not have to do much work when our light is produced by friction and burns us and others.
Tomorrow is Thursday and I propose that we take Thursday to contemplate the Luminous Light of God’s Love and do no posting until Friday.
Let’s see what kind of light we find in us.
God Bless all of you.
I will talk with you Friday, if I am still in this body.

The Catholic Church was never based on “scriptural truth”.
Yikes! You might want to reconsider this statement. You just made the case for many who consider the Catholic Church’s teaching’s heresy.

The Catholic Church predates the Scriptures (NT). We read in Acts 8:3 “But Saul made havock of the church, entering in from house to house, and dragging away men and women, committed them to prison.” He later went on to pen a large portion of the NT. Scriptural Truth is based on the Teachings of the Apostles, which became our NT and Sacred Tradition. Does the statement “The Catholic Church was never based on ‘scriptural truth’.” make more sense now?

Well, it is accurate. The Catholic Scriptures are based on the Catholic Church’s teachings. Many people mistakenly put the cart before the horse.

Protestants do not rely on their own personal human judegement. The Roman Catholic church does, that is is why it strayed into error after 1500 years. 🙂
Could you please explain what this means? Strayed into what error? Do you mean you think things were ok for 1500 years?
I don’t think you quite understood:

Salvation is not by church membership, but by faith in Christ: if you beleive in your heart and proclaim with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, then you shall be saved. It’s as easy as that.
You are right. I don’t quite understand how you can take this verse out of the rest of scripture, build a doctrine on one verse, and ignore what the rest of the scripture says about salvation. 🤷
Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls. (1Peter 1:5)

This last verse was adressed by Peter to the people in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia. This means that one cannot fall away from grace.
So, hwat do you think it means when it says that believers fall from grace?

What does it mean to have a shipwreck of faith?
Code:
But actually, think about what you just said: are you certain that you've thought it through well enough? What does the term mean that the gates of hell shall not prevail against the church? Church writings? Church rituals? Church buildings? Can church buildings be damned and thus the gates of hell shall prevail against them?
The gates of hell are guarding the road to perdition. Once a person passes through the gates, they are no longer on the straight and narrow road that leads to Life. When Jesus said the gates of hell would not prevail against the Church, he meant that He would keep the Church on the straight and narrow way that leads to life.
Code:
No, the term refers to the body of beleivers who make up what is called "the church", and referes to people, who have consciences, morals, commit actions and deeds, have relationships with God, etc... This means that the church as the invisible body of beleivers will not perish into hell.
Well, I agree with all this, but there are other elements of the church that are already sanctified and glorfied, and there are elements that are divine, and incapable of error. All those are true descriptors of the Church.
Code:
If you say that you cannot fall out of grace you are totally contradicting Scripture here.
Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls. (1Peter 1:5)

This last verse was adressed by Peter to the people in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia. This means that one cannot fall away from grace.
Now I am totally confused. 🤷

Is it my imagination, or are you contradicting yourself?

Yikes! You might want to reconsider this statement. You just made the case for many who consider the Catholic Church’s teaching’s heresy.
I know, it is bold. What I mean by it is that the Teachings of Jesus committed to the Apostles were whole and entire before a word of the NT was written. The Catholic faith is not “bible based” it is Christ based. The Holy Scriptures reflect this faith, but our doctrines are based on the teachings of Jesus through the apostles, and not from cherry picking passages out of context. Hope that clarifies my radical statement.

History 101

Christianity comes into being:
*All dates approximate.

AD 292 Crucifixion Of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, the Son of God.

The 69 sevens of the book of Daniel (written in approx. 495 B.C.) end with the “cutting off of the Messiah” [Dan 9:26] at A.D. 29.
A.D. 29 was 483 (69x7) years from the “going forth of the commandment to build Jerusalem” [Dan 9:25] in 454 BC. (that decree given in [Neh 2:4-8]).
Dan 9:25-26
25 Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.
26 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined. (KJV)

AD 29 - 590 The beginning Christian churches are scattered without a central head, but through the influence of the Holy Spirit of God, Christianity continues to grow and spread at a geometric rate.

AD 37 Joseph of Arimathea establishes first above ground church in the world at Glastonbury, in Britain.

AD 41 Term “Christian” first used in Antioch.

AD 43 Edict of Emperor Claudius to exterminate Christian Britain.

AD 49 First Christian Council, in Jerusalem.

AD 52 Caractacus taken prisoner to Rome along with Bran, his three sons, and daughters – including Linus and Claudia of { 2 Tim. 4:21}.

AD 53 Pudens and Claudia (Gladys) of { 2 Tim. 4:21} marry.

AD 60 The Boadicean War.

AD 65 Paul and Peter executed. Tradition has it that Paul was beheaded - not recorded in the Bible; and that Peter was crucified upside down - not recorded in the Bible, but perhaps prophesied in [John 21:17-19].

Tradition has it that Peter, upon learning that he would be crucified, felt himself unworthy to die in the same manner as the Lord Jesus Christ; and thus as a dying request, he asked to be crucified with his head down and his feet up (upside-down).

AD 69 Titus of Rome sacks and destroys Jerusalem. This same Jerusalem would once again become a part of the new Jewish state in 1967. This Jewish State Israel would become a Nation once again in 1948 in fulfillment of Biblical prophecy. (see further on below).

AD 156 Good King Lucius, by edict, proclaims Britain the first Christian nation.

AD 290 The Diocletian persecution (290-300).

AD 306 At Britain, at his father’s death, Constantine declares himself Emperor of Rome.

AD 407 Jerome translates the Latin Vulgate, the early Catholic Bible.

AD 411 Rome withdraws troops from Britain.

AD 449 Angles, Saxons and Jutes invade Britain for the next two centuries driving the British Culdee Celts to the extreme west.

AD 570 Mohammed born (founder of Islam, the Muslim religion). The Muslim religion began about AD 611.

AD 590-604 The first real Pope*, Gregory I (who in fact turned down the title!). The Catholic Church formed. (the term ‘Catholic’ simply means ‘universal’).
  • Some claim that the first Pope was (Leo I in 440-461). But either way it lays bare the current fable that the Papacy traces all the way back to Peter, one of the Twelve Apostles.
AD 1054 The Eastern Orthodox church is formed. They split from the Roman Catholic Church over the dispute of the power and authority of the Pope.

AD 1378 Catholic Church at odds over who should be their Pope, there were two Popes at this time both claiming to be THE Pope. For a time there were actually three rival Popes in the Roman Catholic Church at the same time.

AD 1417 The Council of Constance elected a Pope who was accepted by all rival Catholic Churches. The Roman Catholic Church now considered itself universal with sole authority on God’s Word and salvation, with one Pope recognized as the ‘Vicar of Christ’. (Christ’ representative on earth).

History 101 continued

The Reformation:

AD 1517 The Protestant Reformation began and split the western (Catholic) church into the Roman Catholic and the Protestant Churches.

AD 1517 Martin Luther posts his ‘95 Theses’ on the door of the Catholic Church and sparks the Reformation. The ‘95 Theses’, among other things objected to the selling of Indulgences by the Pope. The Catholic dogma was, and still is today for that matter, that the Pope, as ‘the Vivar of Christ’ had the power to get anyone into Heaven he desired to. The Catholic dogma also proclaimed that the Pope also had the power to get someone out of the mythical place called Purgatory. In Luther’s time, these ‘Papal Indulgences’ were being sold to the highest bidder in the raising of funds to build St. Peter’s Cathedral in Rome. Talk about a house built on the sand that falls because of a bad foundation! [Matt 7:24-27].

Papal (from the Pope) Indulgences claimed by the Catholic Church:

CC (Catechism) 1471. “The doctrine and practice of Indulgences the Church are closely linked to the effects of the sacrament of Penance. ‘An indulgence is a remission before God of the temporal punishment due to sins whose guilt has already been forgiven, which the faithful Christian who is duly disposed gains under certain prescribed conditions through the action of the Church which, as the minister of redemption, dispenses and applies with authority the treasury of the satisfactions of Christ and the saints.’ [Paul VI, apostolic constitution, Indulgentiarum doctrina, Norm 1.] ‘An indulgence is partial or plenary according as it removes either part or all of the temporal punishment due to sin.’ [Indulgentiarum doctrina, Norm 2; Cf. Norm 3.] Indulgences may be applied to the living or the dead.” (Emphasis added)

CC 1498. “Through indulgences the faithful can obtain the remission of temporal punishment resulting from sin for themselves and also for the souls in Purgatory.” (Emphasis added)

CC 1479. “Since the faithful departed now being purified are also members of the same communion of saints, one way we can help them is to obtain Indulgences for them, so that the temporal punishments due for their sins may be remitted.” (Emphasis added)

But the Bible tells us that only Jesus can interceed for us before God:

1 Tim 2:5
5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus (KJV)

AD 1521 Diet of Worms: Martin Luther, the leader of the Protestant separation from the Roman Catholic Church, condemned for heresy. Is it any wonder that the Catholic Church wanted to silence him?!?

AD 1534 Church of England formed: King Henry VIII influenced Parliament to split from the Roman Catholic Pope and formed the Church of England.

AD 1600’s Church of England splits and the Presbyterian and Congregational Churches emerge.

The modern churches:

AD 1534 Formation of the Society of Jesus (known as the Jesuit Priesthood). Founded by Roman Catholic Saint Ignatius Loyola to combat the weakening by the Reformation of the Holy Roman Empire (Catholic Church Universal). This was called the Counter-reformation. These Jesuit priests would go on to murder untold numbers of Christians who refused to bow their knee to the authority of the Roman Catholic Pope. (more on Jesuit Preisthood later, including their ‘secret’ Oath).

AD 1536 On Friday, October 6th 1536, William Tyndale was led out of prison, tied to a stake, strangled, and his body burned to ashes. Tyndale’s crime was that he printed the Holy Scriptures into English that every man might have the Word of God at his fingertips. It is called the Tyndale Bible and only scant copies remain.

At that time, the only copies of the ‘Bible’ were chained in the Church Rectory and not for public viewing. The people had to rely on the priesthood for the Word of God, the same priesthood that had the blood of the Christian Martyrs dripping from their hands. William Tyndale’s last words before being Martyred were: “Lord, open the eyes of the King of England.” Almighty God answered that prayer in 1611 (see below).

AD 1582 Gregorian Calendar created by St. Gregory. This our common current BC/AD (Before Christ/Anno Domini) calendar. The calendar that we must set Christ’s birth at 4 B.C to be accurate. It also requires leap lears to remain correct.

AD 1611 Original King James translation released. Now the common man would have the Written Word of God at his disposal for personal study. God answered Tyndale’s dying prayer with The Holy Bible!

No longer could the church hold men in fear for their salvation. Such great personal sacrifices went into making the Word of God accessible to every man, but the majority of today’s Christians still allow their clergy to tell them what God said to us, most do not even open the Bible, much less read it - this is a shame as well as dangerous! History is set to repeat itself.

As for me, I completely surrender to Christ and His Catholic Church. I don’t believe that I am the “smartest” Christian who has ever lived. However, because of the flawed Protestant belief, which is “personal interpretation” many here do. Many Protestants belong to the religion of their own intellect, or should I say, “a slave’ or “victim” of their own intellect?

Jimmy B, just a note.

*And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye is the world’s largest single religious body,[14] and comprises 23 “particular Churches,” or Rites, all of which acknowledge a primacy of jurisdiction of the Bishop of Rome and are in full communion with the Holy See and each other.may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. * (Rom 12:2)

**All catholic’s agree with this verse! **

Protestants do not rely on their own personal human judegement.

I agree, however, they do rely on personal, human interpretation. Private interpretation is the bedrock of protestantism! Every protestant church can only trace its origin back to a mere man, based on the traditions of that unique church.

The catholic position is that it is illogical to base faith upon the private interpretation of the Bible. They take faith to consist of submitting to authority in which the last word rests with the teacher as expressed in the bible, whereas with private interpretation, the last word rests with the reader. The Catholic Church teaches that private judgement is fatal to the theological virtue of faith and causes divisions in the people of God, and this division and disunity is glaringly obvious in the protestant world.

The Roman Catholic church does…

The C.C. was granted authority by Jesus and is guided by the Holy Spirit regarding matters of faith and morals–only.

that is is why it strayed into error after 1500 years.

I**f the C.C. failed then Jesus failed, according to the bible! He said He would be with them “forever.” He would not leave them orphans! According to your rationale He did leave them orphans in favour of a multiplicity of truths within the protestant churches.

Seriously, isn’t that tantamount to admitting that Jesus misspoke (left them orphans, at least until Martin Luther and company reputedly saved the day, 1500 years later) --when he said:

“And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.” John 14:15-18

“All this I have spoken while still with you. But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” John 14:25-26

“When the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, that is the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify about Me…” John 15:26

"But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you. John 16:7

Did the gates of hades in fact, temporally overcome the church, Jesus built on His chosen apostle Peter, the apostles and prophets?

How can you reconcile your belief that the C.C. apostatized as a whole, with what sacred scripture says about Jesus’ promise of perpetuity via the Holy Spirit, teaching His church “all things” and reminding the church of everything He taught the apostolic church during his earthly ministry? Wouldn’t the Holy Spirit (Parakletos) be the ultimate “helper” --indefectible, infallible and impervious to error, and if so, how could it be possible that the Catholic Apostolic Church (a church comprised of fallible humans, both sinners and saints) could ever “stray” from what Jesus taught? Did the Holy Spirit drop the ball?
**

Luther went so far as to exhort that the human intellect is a prostitute (Luther expressed himself quite vivdly from time to time). This means that one must be subject to the guidance of the Holy Spirit who reveals all truth to us and reforms our thinking.

**As a former Lutheran, I’ve done my research on Martin Luther and he expressed himself quite insanely from time to time too. And he hypercritically believed his authority supplanted that of the C.C.!!! if Luther had been enlightened by God, he would have succeeded in reforming the Church. Just like Francis of Assisi. What about him? Well… he heard Our Lord’s voice telling him: “Francis, repair my church. Don’t you see it’s crumbling down?” So Francis started a religious order… based mainly on poverty. Everyone was amazed, and the rich and powerful pope was embarrassed when he saw Francis’ poverty. Today we can see Franciscan orders everywhere in the Catholic Church. They brought union and consistence to the Church. Now this is what i imagine Luther would have done if he had truly reformed the Church. **
**
Truth is absolutely NOT RELATIVE. When it comes to Jesus’ church, there can be only one truth.

Honestly and sincerely, which church do you recommend to —find “all truth?” Which church is subject to the guidance of the Holy Spirit who reveals all truth to us and reforms our thinking? Certainly all truth is tantamount to all Christians sharing the same beliefs, handed down from Jesus to His apostles and so on. If the C.C. fails the truth litmus test, surely all protestant churches fail as well. Where does that leave us?**

The C.C. is the world’s largest single religious body, and represents over half of all Christians and one-sixth of the world’s population. With a 2,000 year history, the Catholic Church is the western world’s oldest institution. Surely this is a fulfilment of Matthew 28:18-20,*"Then Jesus approached and said to them, “All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.” * The C.C. comprises 23 “particular Churches,” or Rites, all of which acknowledge a primacy of jurisdiction of the Bishop of Rome and are in full communion with the Holy See and each other.

**The Catholic Church is the only church that continues to bear the four marks of the church established by Jesus Christ --"one, holy, catholic (universal) —“Then Jesus approached and said to them, “All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.” **Matthew 28:18-20) —and apostolic church” (The Church is apostolic, handed down from Christ through the Apostles to mankind. The Church came directly from Christ and can be traced back through history to show that those who lead the Church were commissioned to do so by the Apostles, who were in turn commissioned by Christ. “So then you are no longer strangers and sojourners, but you are fellow citizens with the holy ones and members of the household of God, built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the capstone.” Ephesians 2:19-20 --but certainly acknowledges that the Holy Spirit can make use of Christian communities separated from itself to bring people to salvation. The Church teaches that it is called by the Holy Spirit to work for unity among all Christians —a movement known as ecumenism.

**If these 23 “particular Churches,” or Rites ALL
acknowledge a primacy of jurisdiction of the Bishop of Rome and are in full communion with the Holy See and each other, then the C.C. maintains the unity and oneness the bible speaks of:

"…Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all." Ephesians 4:3-6

**The protestant churches acknowledge the primacy of jurisdiction of the bible alone (private interpretation) and are in full communion with no one other than their own particular church.

*Where in the protestant churches is the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace? Where is the one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling? Where is the One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all." * Ephesians 4:3-6

The protestant churches (not all though) reject the catholic church because they think they’re “antibiblical” even though they themselves ignore what the bible itself says “Make no divisions!”

Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgement. For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you. Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ. Is Christ divided? (1Cor 1:10-13; KJV)

So - are people who found new churches, true reformers? No. They’re apostates. They’re anti-biblical.
Let’s check the Primitive Church. Why was it so successful? “And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart”(Acts 2:46). They were UNITED. It’s so ironic - protestantism flourished in the United States of America, and it’s not united!

All I ever hear any more is, ‘I am baptist’, ‘I am calvinist’, ‘I am catholic’, ‘I am christian’. Is Jesus Christ divided?

We know that not ALL denominations can be true (otherwise it would be ONE, not 20,000 to 30,000) What seems to have happened is that the Church that Jesus founded became divided. At first, Roman Catholics against the Orthodox; then came Lutherans, Calvinists, Swigilists, Baptists… then Henry VIII founded Anglicanism (and then adopted some of Luther’s ideas)… the rest is history. And now the one church becomes… thousands of churches, of different denominations. Now, if these churches were compatible, they would join and become one Church. Why can’t they? Simple. They are not.

For every LITTLE mistake when interpreting the Bible, Jesus’ image becomes distorted. Let’s take an example: People say we don’t need ANYBODY to teach us, to know Jesus. “We have the Bible. Why need a church?”. So, by this, people get a wrong image of how God wanted us to be. God wanted us to be in community, and if we stray from our communities, we could end up misinterpreting the Bible and making our own church. And if i’m wrong, could you please explain to me, why isn’t there ONE protestant christian church, with ONE SAME set of beliefs? There WAS in the times of Jesus, and there is in the C.C.!

Much of Protestant theology depends on the notion that Scripture is the sole source of truth. Yet in Jn 21:25 we read not everything is in Scripture. In 1 Tim 3: 15 we read that the Church is the pillar of foundation, not the Bible. In 1 Cor 11:2 we are urged to hold on to all the traditions we have been taught.
Christ prayed at the last Supper that his disciples would remain united as he and the Father are(John 17:11). Yet everywhere today we have the spectacle of a divided Christianity.

Partially. However, the Church is based on Scriptural Truth, at least partially, the “New Testament” Truth. I still think his statement is still very misleading or perhaps just plain wrong.
