Are you ready for some truth; most people don’t like the truth so much?

The reason I asked this question is that I find many Christians somewhat disingenuous when it comes to the real reason or reasons that they are not Catholic or are no longer Catholic.

I feel that many of the Catholic dissenters here who love to quote Bible verses and argue against Catholicism have a personal reason for not being Catholic and not a biblical reason. That is why you can never get anywhere with these people. I have also found this to be true in my real-life contacts and conversations with Catholic dissenters.

For example, a vast majority of people I have met over the years who say that they left the Catholic Church, for this reason or that, it turns out, had no religion in their lives what so ever, for many years.

They didn’t leave the Catholic Church on Sunday to become a “Born-Again” on Monday. They left the Catholic Church on Sunday and became a “Born-Again” twenty or thirty years later.

They left their Faith, turned their back on God and did as they pleased, without guilt, what a life.

They where having “fun” living a promiscuous lifestyle and guess what the guilt finally catches up with them (sin has a way of doing that, don’t you know). They were just full of sin and at the point in which they felt it was time to “go back to church” they discovered that the Roman Catholic Church (actually that God) had a problem with their previous years of bad behavior and now their existed a hurdle or two to overcome and confession can be pretty humbling.

One thing leads to another and before you know it, these same people are now “former Catholics” and bible scholars, not to mention an authority on the Catholic religion, almost over-night. “It’s a miracle!”

It’s not a miracle, it’s disingenuous and hypocritical. Moreover, arguing now against Catholicism is a way for them to have God on their terms instead of His terms and to make them feel better about themselves. There isn’t’ anything wrong with experiencing guilt. We all sin and we all feel guilt, it is the human condition, welcome to life.

Here is some more reality; Many of these “on-fire” Christians who are bound and determined to save all us Catholics, it turns out, if the truth be known, would probably be Catholic today if it wasn’t for the three or four marriages, which occurred in the interim period, during their “non practicing, Christians years”, before they were on fire

I also know of many other personal rather than biblical reasons why many are not Catholic, however there are too many to list here. Don’t get me wrong, I love all my Christian Brothers, but like an alcoholic, you have to admit you have a problem before you can seek a cure.

Why aren’t you Catholic? Tell the truth.

Faith alone. 😉 If you are realy interested watch a couple of debates between Mitch Pacwa and Walter Martin, and some more with James White all on YouTube.

Ha! If you were to post this on a Baptist site that I sometimes read (they won’t let Catholics join), you’d get some pretty flaming responses. 😉

In the thirteen hundreds some Franciscan monks questioned the lifestyle of excess in which the pope engaged, as they were being burned at the stake the realization came that the church was not a physical organization. See reclaimingwalther.org/articles/cfw00006.htm. I would say I am "c"atholic, and "o"rthodox.

Not quite. It may have something to do with them thinking we are hell bound, idol worshiping, heretics. 😃
I wouldn’t agree with that. I do believe that the RCC became apostate and that is why the great schism happened and that’s why the reformation happened. I think the RCC is increasingly irrelevant and she is way too legalistic for most people.

Also, the arrogance of claiming to be the one true church, Petrine doctrine, that no one has salvation outside the RCC, infallible papacy, transubstantiation, etc, contribute to rejection of the RCC. There are better ways.

::rotfl: Personally, I find the Catholic Church to be a whole lot LESS legalistic than the Baptist church I left.

It’s not arrogance, it’s with great humility and awe that the Catholic Church demonstrates that she is the One Church founded by Christ. It only sounds arrogant if you don’t understand it, I guess. Every other denomination in the world can point to a human as its founder, except the Catholic Church (not just Roman, which is only one of many Rites that are all Catholic.)

*What *is “Petrine doctrine” ??

No one has salvation outside the CHURCH. One doesn’t have to be ROMAN Catholic and the Church doesn’t teach that at ALL.

Infallibility is a gift from God and ONLY on matters of faith and morals. Infallibility is NOT impeccability.

Lots of other Christians affirm the Real Presence - the Orthodox believe the EXACT same thing about what happens to the bread and wine that the Catholic Church teaches, they just call it a “mystery” instead.

With all due respect you are somewhat confused.

Because I’m Anglican.
Well, I guess that is a good start… 😃 like the difference between Junior Varsity and Varsity…😛 I am on the Varsity Team…We’ll be waiting for you, when you are ready to move up….

God Bless You 👍

As someone who was an Episcopalian before becoming Catholic, I can say from my own experience, and others that I have talked to, that most people who are not Catholic have no idea what the Catholic church is all about. They may think they know, but they often have a lot of misunderstanding.

When I was Episcopalian, I figured the church was “almost Catholic” except for a few things here & there. I was completely wrong. There is a lot of misinformation out there (such as the preposterous idea that Catholics aren’t Christians) so I would venture a guess that a lot of people aren’t Catholic simply because what little they do know about the Catholic church is incorrect.

Not a likely outcome. You vastly underestimate the obstacles, not to mention the great affection I feel for my present affiliation. Thanks for the invite however.

Ok, that too. 😉

I was led to Christ by a member of a nondenominational church that follows the Bible.

What are better ways?

Do you know the history of the reformation?

King Henry the eighth?
what did he do to establish the church of England?

Martin Luther?
What did he do to establih the Lutheran Church?

I mean no disrespect becuase i am no better than anyone and worse than most, but i feel that Catholicsim is the mature expression of Christianity. many things in catholic teaching are inconvenient to say the least! but authoirty is not in question, teaching is in black and white and there is piety for every flavor of desire to be found within.

again no disrespect but the N-D movement looks like a training ground to me. It is easier to start there for most moderns to get first taste of christianty, and later to grow into maturity of submission and obedience by entering the deeper context of universal religion.
