I contemplate about God, fate, sin, etc daily, but I do not think I can find Him. I do not see the power in prayer. I feel like there is nothing there. God does not care. As for going to confession, it is easy. Again, I do not think it really does anything. The same with mass. It annoys me when I hear something tragic happening, people’s responses are it was the Lord’s plan. I do not see how praying, sacrificing for God, confessing really changes reality. I feel like religion is for sensitive sorts and idealists, when I say this, I am referring pointedly to myself. It is easy to love God when you are suffering or feel sad. If I were less naive, realistic, tough-minded, logical, why would I need God? Maybe I will visit this website less and try to find Him somewhere.

Catchy title. 🙂
Even if we couldn’t believe there is a sun behind the clouds, and daylight will come though the night we live through is pitch black…the sun is still there.
Hear what you’re saying, and understand…but God may in the end confound the most logical and atheistic.
Can our minds really encompass all? I think there is cause for cynicism regarding the all-knowing, all-compassing, very limited human brain and experience.

God bless you, regardless! 🙂

It’s OK to keep looking. You won’t find God: He will find you.🙂

You’re like the devil’s advocate. And u are searching for God. U wont find Him on a website: u will find Him via prayer (constant), & in the sacraments of the Catholic Church if u really want to.find Him!
Go to church & ask Him for faith!!!

It is great that you are looking for God. Yes, you are correct, it is easy to love God when thing are going well. Yes, you some times get lame answers from people in Church. Catholics are sinners too, we all fall short of perfection. You won’t find a perfect parish.
You won’t find any other church or organization that is perfect either. I think you will find the most Joy and peace in the Catholic Church. Peter said “to whom else shall I go”.

Spend some time in Adoration, reading scripture, and prayer. Ask God to reveal himself to you.

God bless you.

I do not see the power in prayer. I feel like there is nothing there. … I do not see how praying, sacrificing for God, confessing really changes reality.
It doesn’t change reality, if by that, you mean it on a macro level, instantaneously and ‘magically’. It changes reality on a personal level. You’re correct to note that, if one does not believe – but merely goes through the paces – there’s ‘nothing’ there. For one who believes, prayer is the means through which we ourselves are changed through our relationship with God; sacrifices are the means through which we train ourselves to focus not on the goods of this world, but of the goods God offers in eternal life; and confession is the means through which we receive forgiveness of sin so that we might be able leave our sins behind us and try again.
God does not care.
I hope you can recognize that you’re making an extrapolation that just doesn’t hold – it’s like a blind person saying “there are no stars in the sky.” You might reasonably say, “I do not have the personal experience a caring God,” and that might be true; but to say that He just doesn’t care at all is an unwarranted conclusion. By jumping to that conclusion, you’re saying that those of us who do experience a loving, caring God are deluded. That’s not where you’re going… are you?
As for going to confession, it is easy. Again, I do not think it really does anything. The same with mass.
Without faith, there is nothing there but ritual.
It annoys me when I hear something tragic happening, people’s responses are it was the Lord’s plan.
Me too. That’s just plain wrong.
It is easy to love God when you are suffering or feel sad.
I’m not so sure. You’re ‘suffering’ and ‘sad’ in the context of your search for God; is it easy to love Him right now? 🤷
If I were less naive, realistic, tough-minded, logical, why would I need God?
There’s a certain truth there: if you were ‘realistic’ (at least, wrt material reality) and ‘logical’ (at least, wrt the logic of secular wisdom), and if things were going well in your life, then you might convince yourself that you don’t need God. Lots of folks do that. However, most of the time, we don’t concentrate on breathing – after all, it’s not a conscious activity, and air is (generally) invisible, and so we don’t know it’s going on. Yet, even in those times of unawareness, would it be logical to assert “I don’t need breathing”…?
Maybe I will visit this website less and try to find Him somewhere.
If you think that might help you find God, then perhaps that’s wise. 🤷

Well, as someone who is known for being realistic, tough-minded and logical (just ask my family;) ), there are several reasons why I need God.

Without the moral framework given to us by God and Jesus Christ, I would not know how to steer my ship in rough waters. I have a road map that has kept me on the right path for 50 years.

Without the belief that all humans are made in the image and likeness of God, I would not be so concerned with serving my fellow man and wanting the best for all humankind.

Without the commands “to forgive those who wrong me” and “to love my enemy”, I would be bitter and mired in misery.

Without Jesus, my suffering would be useless. I can unite my suffering with His and of allhumankind.

Without God, I would not have hope that all things happen for a reason and will work out for the best in the long run.

Without Jesus, I would not have the peace in knowing that when we die we can have eternal life.

Without the love of Jesus, I would see others less-fortunate as a burden.

I could go on, but that is all for now.

Instead of seeking religion, seek God.

God is the source of faith, it is His revelation to the self, however that may happen.

Religion is our response to faith.

If you seek faith, go to the source, Jesus Christ and ask for it.

However, be you must be open to receive it and be open to surrendering your life to Him.

All faith requires a death to self, in order that God can come in and give us new life.

God Bless
Jim

It is not possible “to love Christ but without the Church, to listen to Christ but not the Church, to belong to Christ but outside the Church”. For the Church is herself God’s great family, which brings Christ to us. Our faith is not an abstract doctrine or philosophy, but a vital and full relationship with a person: Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God who became man, was put to death, rose from the dead to save us, and is now living in our midst.** Where can we encounter him? We encounter him in the Church, in our hierarchical, Holy Mother Church. It is the Church which says today: “Behold the Lamb of God”; it is the Church, which proclaims him; it is in the Church that Jesus continues to accomplish his acts of grace which are the sacraments.** - Pope Francis

Hey Cratus, I understand where you are coming from and I’m sorry if I’ve caused you any grief. I would really not want you to leave in this way as you sort of inspire me. I hope you change your mind.

Try going on a retreat. Most of my super special experiences with god was when I went on retreat.

Quiet the mind and listen. Quote from the Bible “Be still and know I am God.”
