If You are Holy, Nothing Will Bother You

Insults will roll off ur back. If u r not guilty of any wrongdoing, u will fear no 1. Right? If u know urself well, nothing any1 says will hurt. Criticism = grain of salt. Is sainthood in all our destinies, or does Christ choose who will b saints?
 
I think it depends on how much you want to be a saint. Being a saint means choosing Jesus first, because you want to, because he is the most exciting, the most enticing thing for you.

Most of us do not become saints because we love the world (and ourselves) more than we love Jesus. A saint wants to spring out of bed and pray, the rest of us put the alarm on snooze!

But we can change our habits and choose Jesus more and more, and I think that is the road to sainthood.

Eventually, anyone who gets to heaven will be a saint, and God wants that for all of us. Christ chooses everyone one of us to be saints but not all of us are up to it.
 
Actually, I think Saints were upset by a lot of things. St Mary MacKillop we upset that the Bishops were so keen to get rid of her, she was upset that they staged an excommunication out of spite. St Therese was upset that she couldn’t join religious life as soon as she wanted. St Teresa of Avila didn’t want to enter the convent and hated it so much it felt like a lion was breaking all of her bones. St Catherine of Siena was upset with the Pope! St Thomas More had done no wrong but was afraid that the King would kill him. Spoiler alert- he did. St Athanasius was afraid he would be killed so he ran away and told what has to be the nearest thing to a lie ever uttered.

You don’t stop feeling these things. I believe you just learn what to do with them. You take an opportunity to humble yourself. You learn the difference between things that matter and things that don’t. The saint and the sinner both wake up and want to press the snooze button. The saint doesn’t want to get up any more than the sinner, but the saint wants to pray more, so gets up.

The idea of Destiny isn’t really Catholic. God wants the best for us but we are free to make choices.
 
Change the title to read “trust God” and nothing will bother you.

Or, I guess in yur case “bother U”. 😊

We are all potential saints, and we choose. Scripture tells us we must die to ourselves to enter into the Kingdom. What is this “self” that is supposed to die? In western culture it is the ego, but it seems in the case of many Christians, they have not vanquished their ego, but merely adopted a religious ego.
 
Saint Jerome was known to be an irascible man at times too. I don’t think the goal for all of us is to be placid, tranquil or dispassionate all of the time. We shouldn’t just look upon injustice with indifference. But perhaps as holiness grows, we come to see what really matters, and we can hopefully better let go of, or offer up, some of the many insignificant things that get on our nerves.
 
We are all called to be saints. Saints are sinners who try harder. Saints never give up seeking the face of God. Saints are bothered by lots of things. Check out the writings of Mother Theresa. Better yet, check out the Gospels and follow Jesus. God is bothered by sin. Being holy is choosing God’s ways over our own. We have all the spiritual aids that Jesus left us: His words, His sacraments, His promises. We fail, yet we can be forgiven in the sacrament of Penance/Reconciliation. Jesus draws us to Himself in the Holy Eucharist. We may be bothered, distracted, stumble and fall, yet we have hope in Christ and try again.

It won’t bother you in the sense that it will not trouble or upset you or “get to you”.

In the other sense, I believe that the forces of evil “bother” (in the sense of attacking) you more. See Padre Pio. 😉
