"If you are standing still then you don't love the Lord"

Have you ever heard this “If you are standing still then you don’t love the Lord” at your church service?

If it is true that you have heard this before, how could not showing emotion/motion determine one’s love for God?

Sounds daft to me - as I said in that same thread, Mary and John weren’t clapping or dancing at the foot of Jesus’ Cross, yet I’m sure they loved Him just as much at that moment.
 
It seems often in the bible when anyone encounters the holy they drop to their knees or prostate and are silent until spoken too.

I personally am drawn to quiet bowed head awe when I’m moved by God. It’s a joyfullness that just can’t be expressed at the time or even afterwards.
 
It’s cultural. In some places, people express every strong emotion or sense of importance by moving and making noise. They interpret quiet and bowed heads as signs of shyness, and see it as an unwillingness to be seen worshipping out loud. I used to go to a church like that. I’ve heard it’s partly a West African influenced attitude. Once I was standing listening to the music and not clapping because I didn’t want to clap. My hands were sore. The pastor was in front of me. He turned around with an exaggerated grin and took my wrists adn made me clap. I was offended. that was one straw on the camel’s back for me. But he didn’ mean any harm. He just thought I was being shy. Another time the second pastor saw me bowing my head during a service. She scolded me for not singing. She thought I was sleeping! She didn’t know what I was doing. it’s just one of those cultural things.🤷
 
I go to a charismatic/pentecostal church and I have never heard this.

If I did I would probably sit down, regardless of what I’d been doing before. I think any statement like this is complete junk. You can’t legislate people’s methods of worship.

I’ve never heard that. It sounds dumb to me. People have different styles.

I’m amazed at how mere mortals claim to know where another person stands. They know who will or won’t go to Heaven. They can tell, they think, if you are really a Xian. They like to rank people. And they, of course, always place themselves at the top of the spiritual heap.

IMO, it’s nothing but ego. Who do these people think they are, that they will tell others how to worship? Who do they think they are that they can know another person’s mind? And who do they think they are that they declare themselves iquisitor?!!

What appalling arrogance.
 
If it was meant to say that if you are not helping those who need help, you don’t love the Lord, I would agree. That was not what was said, however.

Was God found in the earthquake? IN the Thunder? In the wind? No. IN the whisper. At times, we should be quiet to hear God.
 
That depend on individual, many believers when praising lord really praising with all their heart, clapping and jumping up and down while some will remain still and praise God. I usually got moved when worshipping rather then praising. I remembered there are times when i whole heartedly worshipping God, i didn’t realized i am tearing…i was shocked , coz i know i am not tearing on my own but i just don’t understand why i tear. So i ask my frez am i strange, she told is my spirit that are tearing not me…:o

Usually charismatic believers (catholics and christians) are more expressive . My frez shared with me that her mum (catholic) can all of the sudden sing loudly in the midst of her prayer while she didn’t even realize it (becoz she was so deep in her prayer)
