I’m saying that the 10 Commandments take precedence over Canon Law, because the 10 Commandments are the foundation for all law.
Which was written in 1983, long after both of these documents. Before that Sunday meant Sunday.Have you been following what was said earlier? “Sunday” begins at sundown on Saturday. So attending mass on Saturday evening / late afternoon IS attending Mass on Sunday. I refer you to Can. 1248 which was quoted earlier in this thread.
Wrong again. Look at the scripture passage which records the death of our Lord. He was crucified on the cross on Friday. They needed to get Him off of the cross and into the tomb before sundown because the Sabbath began at sundown … that is how the Apostles observed the changing of the days – it happened at sundown and NOT at midnight.Which was written in 1983, long after both of these documents. Before that Sunday meant Sunday.
+1.DorianGregorian,
I am sorry to say this, but you are wrong in this instance and you might be leading the OP astray by making him/her feel like they are attending a “lesser” mass when they attend the vigil. Both fulfill the Holy day of obligation.
+1 again. Also, you mentioned that the ten commandments is more influential than canon law. However, if that were the case you would be advocating the Holy day of obligation to be on Saturday because before Christ was resurrected on a Sunday the Sabbath was Saturday.
So I take it you are also part of the “Spirit of Vatican II” crowd. We have seen what what 40 years of following the “Spirit of ______” nonsense has done to the Church.Going to Saturday mass instead of Sunday (unless there is a serious reason) is certainly within the letter of the law, but is it in the spirit of the law?
[edited] Canon Law is handed down by the Pope guided by the Holy Spirit and using the Power of the Keys as granted him by Our Lord.Yet, Canon Law, while important and certainly important, is still man’s law. The Divine Law commands us to keep holy the Lord’s day (Sunday).

If I am to choose between the Law handed down by Our Lord’s vicar been entrusted with the power of the keys and given a charism of infallability, and and the successors of the apostles (aka the bishops), when it comes to matters of faith OR some random guy on a message board, I am with the Magisterium.
PS: Nowhere did I call you a “Protestant”. If I have, please provide the link. Otherwise, please do not accuse me of something that I did not do. Thank you.Sir, you have no right to call me a Protestant, Perhaps you want to say the Rosary with me, or would you rather just see my brown Scapular. Would you like to borrow my copy of the Douay-Rheims to see the protestant messages I read.Reported.
