I converted from the Antiochian Orthodox Church to the Catholic Church via the Church of Rome. This means that I am a Melkite Catholic Christian.

If you could be so kind as to let me know, when do Melkites (in the USA) celebrate Easter/Pascha? Do they follow the Roman Catholic or the Orthodox Church in calculating it?

Any knowledgable answer would be greatly appreciated! 🙂

Greetings fellow Melkite!!!

We follow Rome’s calculation for the dating of Easter. That means we’ll be celebrating Pascha this Sunday. 👍

Thanks, brother! I really appreciate that information! Is there an online calendar of Melkite Saints and Feasts? Do we have any days of obligation?

I believe there is an online calendar of Melkite saints and feasts somewhere, but I’m not sure where it is. You’d have to do some digging. I suggest starting with the Eparchy of Newton’s website melkite.org. The site has a ton of wonderful sources that could lead you to a calendar. You could also try this webs tie melkites.org/en/music.htm. I don’t know if they have a calendar, but you may be able to dig something up from there.

As to days of “obligation,” Melkites take the same approach as any Orthodox Church. But the major feasts are all days when one is expected to attend one of the Church services (Vespers, Orthros, or Divine Liturgy). The major feasts are the only feasts considered to be “obligatory.” Our major feasts are the same as the major feasts in the Orthodox Church.
