If you could design your own religion

My religion would be very like Roman Catholic or Eastern Catholic. There would be no latin for those who can’t understand it, but the language would be like the english side of the old missals. Thees and thous included.

We would be a bit less conservative politically for the sake of the poor, disabeled, and sick. Not that the RCC of today is not.

If you could design your own religion, and make that religion true, what are some things that you would include in that version of reality?

For example: would you want monotheism, polytheism, or something in-between, like dualism?
Heaven and hell? Nirvana? Heaven but no hell? Eternal reincarnation? No afterlife at all?
Creatures like angels and demons, or other supernatural creatures?
The First Church of the NFL. Every Sunday we would play! 😉

Only one thing I would change: Any human-pet pair could choose to be togather until death. 🙂
I’d make animals live as long as people, too.

I used to think it would be great if they could talk as they do in The Chronicles of Narnia, but now I’m glad they don’t talk—their non-verbal ways of communication can be better than speech.

I don’t think answering this thread in the spirit of imagination to which the OP invites us needs to be considered as dangerous. In a way, writers such as Tolkein and C.S. Lewis made up somewhat altered religious universes, I’d say.

In my religion, snow leopards would be huggable.

I agree, pets should be as long lived as people. It gets very depressing having to bury cats and dogs, and when you move having to leave them behind.

I would not presume to change Christianity. But I would perhaps start another denomination or non-denominational congregation if I felt there was a need. It would be an ecumencal restoration movement, to try to be closer to what I think Christ actually meant, and to correct some of the ways various branches of the church have gone wrong. But I don’t think there is that much of a need: I’m happy enough with TEC & ELCA, the two with which my congregation is affiliated.

I’m open to speculation of that sort, but I’ll need to think about it more before giving that kind of answer.

Actually, J. R. R. Tolkien did this very thing in The Silmarillion and through his other works dealing with the world he created, most especially Middle Earth, Numenor, and the Blessed Isle. It’s quite intricate, influenced by his Catholic faith, and yet there are tinges of paganism in it as well. I rather think he was “baptizing” the best of the pagan beliefs/practices in his work.

And of course anything else you can think of! I may post this in the Non-Catholic religions section as well later, because I think I might get very different perspectives there.
I think I’d create as many holidays as the calendar could hold! What can I say, everyone likes an excuse to eat food…
