If you drop the Holy Eucharist and a mouse eats it…is the mouse going to heaven?? A Protestand asked me this question and i didn’t know how to answer…

Nope, mice don’t have souls. When they die, they are just dead. They don’t go to heaven, hell or purgatory.

It’s best that all the Eucharist is consumed by people. But sometimes, there is still blood stuck to the outside of the chalice after wiping with the cloth, and sometimes there are crumbs left in the plate that no-one notices. So then, the plate and chalice are washed in a special sink where it goes into the dirt. Maybe an earthworm will eat it. Maybe it will just stay in the dirt. Sometimes people drop crumbs on the floor and they get vaccumed and put in the bin. Sometimes pieces of host get stuck to people’s hands, and later they wash their hands and the host ends up in the sewer. How does God deal with this? He knows we did our best to be reverent to His body and blood, and we just missed some by accident. He’s not going to be offended. Basically, any Eucharist that doesn’t get consumed, any Eucharist that somehow gets lost, don’t worry about it. It’s not going to have major effects on the universe (eg, plants growing out of soil with Eucharist in it are not any more holy than regular plants). God deals with it in His own way.

Coyote, If Jesus had touched a leper and healed him, and you saw it, would you not allow him then to touch you? This is what your saying when commenting on getting sick or mouth bacteria from the people in front of you. The last thing I would worry about in Mass is weather or not I might get a bug from recieving our Holy Lord.

This thread is 6 years old, and the poster you are responding to has not been around in more than 5 years, so don’t be disappointed if he/she does not answer you. 🙂

During a daily mass I attended, a very elderly gentleman, who was in front of me as we filed to the front for Communion, dropped the Eucharist. He quickly bent over, picked it up and put it in his mouth. I have never seen that happen before. What are you suppose to do if you drop the Eucharist during Communion?
He’s fine.
But don’t go thinking you can carelessly handle the Eucharist. Try your best not to drop it, but other than that the old man is fine.

I’ve since asked a priest, he said that you should always consume the host if possible. If for some reason you can’t, then it should be put in water and allowed to disolve then poured down the special sink in the sacristy (suporium???). That sink send it directly into the ground, not into the sewer lines.)
That’s quite correct. If for any reason the host cannot be consumed - say it has been trodden upon or spat out by a child who shouldn’t have received it - it should be placed in a glass of water. Communion wafers are made so that they will break down completely in water. The glass may then be emptied into the piscina - which drains into consecrated ground, or some other suitable place where it may pass to the earth.
