If You Found a $50 bill on the Street, What Would You Do?

Keep it. Thank God for the blessing. Move on.

It’s not that big of a deal.

Now ---- if you found $5,000 - that is a different story. Then it needs to go to the police. And I believe that if no one claims it after a certain amount of time you get to keep it. “finders keepers” ya know.

To the poster who mentioned cell phones, wallets, cameras, etc…yeah, this poll isn’t about those items. It’s about a monetary bill that is laying on the street…these items typically are not traceable to the original owner.

We all know that God works through a myriad ways. Does anyone believe it is possible that God can allow someone to find a bill, if they are in extreme need?

I have heard of God using people. I know a woman who shared with our choir that she had been in horrible financial straits. Her electricity had been turned off, so every day she would cook before 5PM, while she still had light.

She was praying and praying. One day she met a friend in the street and the friend told her that she was going to “bless” her. When the friend saw her, she was suddenly impressed with the feeling that she should offer her something.

So even though the woman protested that she was fine, the friend handed her $200. And so she was able to turn on her lights.

For those who would return the bill to the police, is it not possible that a lost bill may be a way that God can use to bless someone who really needs it?

I might be greatly annoyed at the loss of a $50 bill, but that found bill might be breakfast lunch and dinner for a family of four.

If the person finding the money is poor, then keeping it is a boon from heaven. But, a wealthy person might find it just as easily as a poor one. If the one who finds it is well off, they might want to bless someone else who needs it more. Still, it depends on local laws/norms what one might do with it. $50 isn’t a large sum in our economy but in some other part of the world it might be a month’s earnings. The Church tells us (AIUI) that what we do in such situations is dependent on the circumstances, as I’ve described here. Your friend was indeed blessed and in her situation it was right and proper for her to accept a gift of money in her need. Being gracious when we need help is a virtue as is giving to others when we have enough and can share.
