Feanaro's Wife:
At this point I would prefer to keep this thread on the topic of why we LIKE her and how she has helped us in our own lives.

Unless she is a Satanist, I don’t see the need to talk about her religion (unless of course we wish to collectively pray for her conversion to Catholicism;) )

Thanks!

Malia
:hmmm: since when is talking about religion a negitive thing…maybe thats why we liked her is her dedication to faith…morals and common sense…

No, that’s not what I meant. But I started this thread about why we like her and how she has helped us in our lives. I have no problem with someone wanting to discuss her religion in context to what this is about.

I know from previous threads that there are a lot of people here who do not like her and I don’t want them hijacking this thread with random comments that really serve no purpose.

the only reason I asked about her practicing her faith was just to confirm a comment I heard on the radio about that. I respect her and applaud her “children first” arguments. and she is courageous.

Thanks, but you didn’t need to explain…just trying to keep this on track.🙂

Are you a regular listener? Do you have any stories about how she has affected your life?

She announced a year or two ago that she is no longer a practicing Jew, but that she still considers herself Jewish.
WHAT!!! She was pulled off the radio stations in Chicago before I moved–but her faith used to be the cornerstone of her morality-based advice–some of it I appreciated, some I could do without. She had spent years studying and converted from a Catholic upbringing. Her son’s Bar Mitzvah garnered hours of broadcast discussion and commentary. Perhaps it was the unfortunate discovery of Dr. Laura’s dead mother, rotting in her apartment for weeks following her homocide See: archives.cnn.com/2002/US/West/12/20/drlaura.body/ that sunk her credibility. She used to bang pretty hard on the obligations of adult children under the 5th Commandment to assure their parents’ welfare and basic needs were met even in the face of conflict or broken relationships. Poor woman sounds like she needs a little help herself these days.

What’s the deal with all these stations dropping her program? Was it the old naked photo scandal from the 80 year old guy? Or is it the gay lobby. Or do listeners just like warm & fuzzy better? The talk shows I liked–first Dr. Laura, then Michael Medved, have been dropped.
I’ve been a Dr Laura fan since before she was anti-gay. But I certainly prefer warm & fuzzy. When I do hear her now, I usually change the station after 20 minutes or so - I’m not sure if I’m less entertained by her style than I used to be, or if she’s become more shrill than before.

Anyway, besides her loss of momentum after the TV show was cancelled, I think there are simply more entertaining talk radio shows now than there were before. The two slots that she used to be on in my market are now taken by conservative commentator Glenn Beck and financial guru Dave Ramsey.

I love Dr. Laura. I listen to her everyday. She has helped me to open up my big mouth and take a stand. I have a serious problem with divorced people dating until the kids are out of the house. I tend to get in some ugly arguments. Same with daycare. Forget the extra spending money and stay at home with these children.

Yep, she created a monster here.
