I don’t find multudes of writtings from the first two centuries of Christianity supporting the use of Icons. should we throw those out?
Tradition ascribes to St Luke the writing of the first icons of the Mother of God.

Silly wabbit. 😃

Glory to Jesus Christ!

Hello East,

No comparison.

You will not find rosaries either. Most especially you will not find practices like burning incense or making a Sign of the Cross. Yet these accretions are not doctrinal, they are simply devout practices. We know that and accept.

More to the point, these aforementioned dogmas are serious. By not embracing them, one is cut off from Holy Mother Church. One could conceivably wind up in hell over it.

Yet the early Christians knew nothing of them.

I guess they were invincibly ignorant, no?

Icons aren’t serious? Ok. Well, then I guess the seventh ecumenical council wasn’t serious. oh well.
Furthermore, my point is well made. You claim that the Western Church invented her dogmas concerning the Papacy, yet even Iraneaus supports them. Icons, on the other hand, appear to be an innovation. But you claim the EO Church is unchanging. Interesting.

Good point.

I should have thought that through a bit more carefully.

The rationale for icons is that Jesus Christ Himself is an Icon of God, therefore veneration through images is acceptable.
