If you were baptized but die in mortal sin does it really make a difference?

Baptism does not take away one’s free will, if that’s what you’re asking.

No, you can be baptized and still go to Hell for your sins. What makes you think that baptism is a permanent “Get Out of Hell Free” card?

Does what make a difference? Your baptism, or your dying in mortal sin?

Baptism leaves an “indelible mark” on your soul which will remain even if you go to hell.

Being properly Baptised is important. Being free of mortal sin when we die is much more important.

See Matthew Chapter 7, especially versus 13 & 14 and 21 to 23.

See also John 20: 21-23.

If you mean does baptism prevent one from going to hell even if he chooses hell by his sins the answer is no. Whether we go to heaven or hell is determined by whether or not we are repentant. If I separate myself from God’s grace by sinning gravely I am telling God I love myself and the pleasure gained from sinning more than I love him and this choice will impact me forever if I am unrepentant. As Jesus teaches us through the Church sin is a failure to love God and neighbor due to a perverse attachment to certain goods of the world. If I love money, sexual pleasure, am unforgiving, etc, then I am telling God he is wrong and I am right so heaven would be hell for me where God would be constantly saying he is right and I am wrong, so he lets me go where I want, which is hell.
