If you werent what you are now, what would you be?

If, God forbid, you suddenly lost your faith in your current religion, what religous group or sect do you think you would join?

It’s hard to imagine what could make me lose my faith, but I think whatever it was would probably have a significant influence the direction I took.

I suppose I could lose my faith if I became firmly convinced that Jesus never existed or that he is dead. I think, for me, this would take Christianity, Islam, and various associated religions (e.g. Mormonism) all off the table. Even Judaism would lose a lot of its appeal.

In such a scenario, I would continue studying a variety of religions, as I do now, but with an eye to joining one of them. In the past, I would have been more inclined to Taoism, but these days I think most of my interest would be directed toward Advaita Vedanta and Buddhism.

I think I’d also be more inclined to syncretism, too.
