If Your Religion Did Not Exist

If Christianity did not exist? I would most likely have continued in what I believed before I was a Christian (again, but that’s a long story):

An eclectic blend of mostly Eastern deism/pantheism: Zen/Tao/Vedanta + Lockean Natural Law. That served for me as pieces of the cosmic jigsaw puzzle, or as stepping stones that led me back to Christianity… but if there were no Christianity, it might have been permanent.

Shalom Izdaari;

I know the feeling; once dabbled on the edge of some New Age garbage. It’s attractive at first, but leads to confusion, and gives little hope.

Judaism

I’d be of the Essene ‘persuasion’ I suppose.
Shalom Bill;

Non Abrahamic though?

As an aside, the Essene community would be an interesting group to be a part of; very different from our modern lifestyles.

What’s the point in life after death if you can’t be with G’d and our Saints? You wouldn’t even know what it would be like…What if you end up somewhere on a cloud being bored all day?😛

Lol just kidding.
so true:)
🙂

I just realized, that if my religion never exsisted, since I’m Native American I’d probably have traditional Chickasaw tribal beliefs…so I guess that’s the true answer.

This is such a different kind of question as opposed to a different kind of religion that “interests” you.

There was a thread like that floating around here. I have interests in all sorts of religions because I find them fascinating…including the cultures that house them.

I even found certain types of paganism and Wicca interesting and very intriguing but would never consider worshipping their Gods or practicing what they believe. It would never occur to me to do so.

I think that is why I would have to pick Judaism…even if it’s still the Judea-Christian God…it’s as close to the truth as I could ever get…if Jesus was never here and we were still waiting for him.

If I couldn’t then I’d be agnostic.

I should clarify, and my apologies for not doing so in my first post;

But, other than our Judeo-Christian tradition, so including Judaism, what other faith would you be prone to follow?

Shalom Aleichem
Hm. Well, that puts it in a different light.

Lessee…this is a more complicated question than it seems, as it seems God has ordained that Judaism and Christianity answer a number of questions that are exclusive to them. If all of those answers were gone…

I’d probably be doing something like what the entire world was doing in anticipation of Christ. I would cling to the supernatural things of the world as the pagans do, yet also turn to philosophy for answers as Aristotle and Gautama did. The theater would be of great importance to me as a place of worship. Theatre has always had a spiritual side to it. It began as part of religion, in fact.

Shalom friend;

I understand; if the question was open to Judaism, I suspect all of us would declare thus.

As an aside; I don’t actually view faith in Yeshua as a “different” religion than that of the Israelites, but it’s fulfillment and cornerstone.

( I’m sure most talmidim of Yeshua would agree with me )

Shalom again friend;

Good answer; I feel many of us would resort to such things, without the Judeo/Christian G-d.

Very interesting thread:thumbsup:

It would be a close call between Sikhism and the Bahai Faith

It would be nice to hear people’s views as to why they like their said religions

Shalom Arabic;

Thank you for your kind words.

Another one for Sikhism! Ha 👍

Buddhism for sure, perhaps with some pagan/animistic/Shinto influences. I would definitely be open to the possibility of other pagan/animistic/Shinto deities/creatures and even acknowledge them, even if as a Buddhist I chose not to worship them.

Shalom friend,

Thank you for contributing. That’s about three or four count for Shintoism.

Easy one, without Christianity, my religion would be drugs and alcohol.
As for the religion I might be the least uncomfortable in, that's hard to answer because I'd probably like to say Alawite, because they have some incorporation of Christian rites. but then that would imply Christianity would exist. But I guess I'd say Alawite.
