Does anyone have any knowledge of this group?

I have tried to research this sect, but find precious little about them.

It is a sect founded by a guy named Felix Manalo in the Philippines and the name translates from Tagalog into English as Church of Christ.

There was a story in the local newspaper about this church buying a ghost town in South Dakota.

In the story, this group is said to reject the concept of the trinity and believes Christ was one of several prophets, of which this fellow Manalo was the latest. At least I think that is what is believed.

The followers, reported as close to 2 million, primarily in the Philippines, also believe the Catholic Church is apostate.

The reason I am curious is when people hear those in this group reject the trinity, they seem to instantly believe they are Unitarian Universalist.

They seem to be very secretive, but from what I can tell, they may be unitarian (with a small u) because they reject the trinity, but they are nothing like Unitarian Universalists.

I thought maybe someone here may have heard of them. They appear to be popping up in various areas of the U.S.

Peace,

I think I saw a program on TV about them ( a lady I guess was leading them), pretty crazy…

Nope. They’re not unitarian. They believe that the divinity of Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit is not biblical.

an excerpt from their publication…

*Christ and the Apostles are united in teaching how many and who is the real God. Similar to other true Christians, according to Apostle Paul, there is only one God, the Father—not the Son and more so not the Holy Spirit. The Apostles also did not teach that there is one God who has three personas who are also Gods. … It [Trinity] is not found in the Holy Scriptures or the Bible, and if [Catholic] priests ever use the Bible to prove this teaching of theirs, all are based only on suppositions and presumptions.

— trans. from Pasugo (November 1968)*

I can say many other things, but I’m afraid it would violate forum rules.

Yes they are popping from all over because they have the money to do so, which by the way came from tithes that were demanded from their congreagation. Yes demanded.

You risk being embarrass in front of the congregation if you failed to do so. They bring out their ‘ledger’ and announce those that have delinquent contributions inside their worship centers. Now its good to have accountants but announcing your failure to tithe is horrendous.

Well maybe its all worth it for their members, because you are in good hands when you are one with INC. You’re like a member of a religious mafia, everyone inside their fold seems right and everyone outside of it are wrong. Dead wrong. They are good in protecting their own, especially when you are a regular contributor of large amounts of money in their missions. They will protect you even if you have committed murder. In fact they are doing it right now.

They always seemed most like Jehovah’s Witnesses who didn’t go door to door to me. As the third largest Filipino group after Sunnis they tend to show up anywhere there is a large community of Filipinos. Most non-pinoy members tend to be spouses who went through with the forced conversion to get married.

I’ve passed by the house of the founder of INC. Actually, it’s not a house; not even a mansion. It’s a palace.

If you have no idea about their founder. Go search on Google, type his name FELIX Y. MANALO then you will have results. Wikipedia has lot of info about this person.

They also claim to be the One True Church. They’re a cult, and not a benign one.:onpatrol:
