Ignatian exercises alone

Hello all,

I have had a desire to go through the Ignatian exercises, but there are not many Jesuits around me. There is a Jesuit run spiritual center nearby me, but all their retreats are a bit pricey and money is pretty tight for me. Any recommendations on a book or something that sort of reworks the exercises for someone who is basically going to try to reflect without the help of an available spiritual director?

The Exercises are to be “given” not just read or done on ones own.

So a director is needed.

Some do so via the 19th annotation and take some time a day (at home) for eight months etc and meet regularly with a director who is versed in the exercises.

Though of course one can gain some profit from reading (I have never gone through the exercises -but have a few copies of the work).

Of course make sure the director knows the exercises and “thinks with the Church”.

You may want to look up Miles Christi they give the exercises.

I highly recommend “The Discernment of Spirits” by Rev. Timothy Gallagher, OMV. He walks the reader through all the steps of the Exercises with a lot of insight that I found to be invaluable. He is in much demand as a speaker, and is often shown on EWTN, although it is mostly in the wee small hours. You can set your DVR, in that case.
