Arcchbishop Mor Cyril Aphrem kareem of the United states diocese is being selected as the 123rd Patriarch of Antioch (SOC) today at Lebanon.

But, wait a minute…he’s not Catholic…is he?😃

In any event, as we say in the “east”,*** Mazal Tov!!***

In Christ,
MinM

I know him semi-personally. He’s a kind soul, a holy bishop and will make an excellent Patriarch.

Axios! Axios! Axios!

For a head of an Oriental Orthodox Church quite appropriate, I would tell…

By the way, new EO patriarch of Antioch is ex-metropolitan of Europe, Malankara catholicos was in servise in North America and Europe, Ukrainian major archbishops was in Argentina… This seems to me like if there is a tendention to have a wordly-wise or a little bit “foreign” church leaders.

Don’t forget His Beatitude the Patriarch of the Syriac Catholics, Moran Mor Ignatius Ephrem Joseph was bishop in NJ as well - now they’ll share the same name and title! Hopefully merger!

I don’t think there’s an “Ephrem” in there. AFAIK, he’s titled Moran Mor Ignatios Yowsef III (Younan), but yes, the “Jersey connection” is very interesting isn’t it? 😉

Of course, Syriac Catholic patriarch, too…
Well, he is Ephrem Joseph Younan and as patriarch his names appears usually as Ignatios Joseph III Younan, but I have also seen Ignatios Joseph III Ephrem Joseph Younan, similarly e. g. Ignatios Peter VIII Peter Gregor Abdel-Ahad or Ignatios Moses I Basil cardinal Daoud… where the name after the number is patriarch’s own name and his regnal name is mostly half of it, but not always.

Yes - now the Maronites are the only patriarchate of Antioch that need a Jersey patriarch :p.
